I am "relieved" Hughes didn't take the bait on Dubois. I just read article from Marc Dumont and it was one of the better explanations of what Montreal is doing. Newhook might thrive under an MSL leadership. I think the deal was still good for Montreal since the pick came from Chariot's trade so in respective trading Chariot for a 16th over all pick is pretty decent.
I heard they are trying to trade up so they get Smith or even Carlsson
Some people may think this is crazy, but I think it is more likely than Smith being available. I think San Jose really likes Smith and if he is there, they will take him. Do they like Carlsson as much? Does SJ trade down if Smith is no longer there? Apparently they like Leonard a lot. Columbus is taking a center and the past has shown that the GM is not scared to pick the player they like most. Just look at the PLD pick. Some think that Smith is a better fit for Columbus. Others think that Carlsson is more the type of player the GM likes…and they are both right. What Columbus does is going to be the domino that will start a chain reaction.

I would take carlsson. As long as mtl picks in the top 5 and its one of these players, i'll be happy. If they go outside of top 5 i would expect leonard.

Newhook seems very dynamic kind of like a William Nylander. I think it's a good trade Montreal has to add speed and be a team that plays fast.
It would be a dream cime true if we picked big Leo Carlsson. The guy is not only skilled but is very powerful. He claims that his maximum on bench press is 330lbs. If that is true and he does this at only 18 years old and only 200lbs this guy is a force of nature!

I think your first option is more likely to happen- I think Columbus takes Carlsson and Sharks take Smith…but I like the idea of trading with Philly if we can get that extra 1st..
I like the idea of getting another first round pick in this year's draft. But if the unthinkable happens and Carlsson is available you have to go with Carlsson. I
The problem on draft day is you're always at the mercy of the teams selecting in front of you. Having said that, I believe the only way Anaheim does not draft Fantilli is if they select Michkov instead, which is highly unlikely given Michkov's contract status in the KHL and the uncertainty surrounding today's geo-political climate. The only way Columbus does not draft Carlsson is if they have a trade worked out to bring in an experienced top six center that would allow them to draft Smith and patiently wait a couple of years for him. After seeing the minimal return Philadelphia got for Kevin Hayes yesterday ( a 6th round pick and half salary retained) there is a good chance there are players available in salary dumps. There's also a good chance many teams have trade chips that will not yield the value they had previously hoped they would.

Coach I feel the fear around Russian draft picks is overblown, their
development process there has not changed, still very good and jr and sr leagues are solid enough to keep developing young players there. My read is Mitchkov goes 4th after Carlsson and Montreal will pick Will Smith or Leonard. Both Semishev and But will go higher in the draft then some scouts have.
I still believe Mitchkov will exit the KHL early to play in the NHL by a year as Malkin facilitated his own exit from the KHL.
