NJ Devils ACQUIRE TYLER TOFFOLI from the Calgary Flames! Trade BLACKWOOD to SJ Sharks!



The New Jersey Devils ACQUIRE TYLER TOFFOLI from the Calgary Flames for Forward Yegor Sharangovich and a 3rd Rd pick. This trade came as a total shock and there was no rumors linking him to the Devils..
Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald earlier in the day Trade Mackenzie Blackwood to the San Jose Sharks for a 6th rd pick. Tyler Toffoli adds alot to this Devils core and had his best season scoring 30 plus goals and would look good this upcoming season on a line with either Jack Hughes or Nico Hischier.

    I've been saying since the deadline the Devils desperately needed a right-handed scoring forward, last year we only had Mercer to fill that role. Adding him to the top-6, along with a full season with Timo, should yield some insane results. Best of luck to Shango he should be able to continue to develop and hopefully turn out into a solid middle-6 guy for them.

    Some flexibility at the bottom, but I think the first two lines will look like that to begin the year

    I think the addition Toffoli makes it even harder for Holtz to crack the lineup. I expect he will be part of a package for a bigger piece…maybe packaged with Vanecek for Hellebuyck?

    Yeah Toffoli seems like a perfect fit right now. All good especially if he gets the extension for 3 or 4 years. I liked Sharangovich and he had 24 goals 2 years ago… but last year was not a good year for him. I agree with you, he did need a team where he would get more quality minutes. Glad to put the Blackwood discussions away. I cringed every time they put him on the ice for the last freaking year. He was not the future of this team. Good guy… I wish him well… and I think he has a chance as a backup if he can be more durable. I see a lot of people thinking Tatar is going to go next but he was a 20 goal scorer last year and I though he was solid both ways… his salary is about a million too high.

    Low risk/ high reward rental. It sounds like he wants to settle down somewhere and im not sure thats possible outside of a very short term deal. However for this season lets get hyped about the insane offense we have.

    With the $24 million in cap space re-signing Timo Meier is next. The cap space also allows for a trade for Connor Helleybuck. Your guys had a period after Marty retired and Lou left where the Devils were no longer an elite franchise, with the youth and skill that you have acquired in recent years a trade for Helleybuck may win you another Cup. You might be surprised but when the Devils and Islanders are competetive hockey wins in the Metropolitan area and thats good for all of us that love hockey.

    Great trade for NJ. I think Toffoli could have fetched a higher price at the deadline, perhaps a 1st round pick plus, instead NJ gets him for the full season. Always been a fan. He’s from Scarborough where I grew up too.

    They got Toffoli for a player who is 13th or 14th on the depth chart and a freebee 3rd round pick they got for the rights to Severson.

    Even if this trade doesn't work out, the return they gave to Calgary means NOTHING for the future of this team.

    Fantastic trade by Fitz ! As much as I like Sharangovich , I think he doesn’t possess that grit so needed in playoffs and can’t be coached . Nevertheless I wish him all the best in his career .
