Also a Flames fan, I never blamed Feaster for making the pick on Jankowski. It was a very weak draft (same draft as Yakupov), it was late in the first round, so he took a flyer on a talented guy with potential, but who was obviously a project. Jankowski didn't even play Junior A hockey (I think he was a high school player). Jankowski teased us for a while, but never panned out. Where Feaster looks foolish was that prediction. He could have just said, "We like Mark's talent and he's going to the NCAA and we think when he's ready he's going to be a great player for us." Everyone would have understood that Feaster meant, "Well, we're hoping for the best but not really expecting much," which is the best you can do in a bad draft year.
McGuire also said ovechkin will never be tough enough to play in the NHL when he was drafted
Yeah the flames fucked up with Jankowski but have redeemed themselves with a shit ton of late round and 2nd round steals, the current rosters mostly draft picks now
Pierre McGuire is an idiot, can't believe he has join Ottawa Senators.
Top prospects talent are wasted in the worst teams that drafts them, there is a reason that they're so good is because they flourish when the whole team succeeds and letting the bottom dwelling teams pick the best players is a backward way of getting the best out of a great athlete at their young age.

Umm, as a Sens fan, the Sens did NOT tank to get Daigle…they just sucked so bad that people think they tanked but they were just THAT bad…horrible…and pathetic losing 7-1 most nights.
Karmalov or whatever his name is might of been the best player of all time not just in Russia. The goalie on that Russian team that toured the U.S. and beat almost every team may have been the best goalie ever to live also.
I know Alexander Daigle he's my friends uncle
Daigle was really that great coming out of the QMJHL. Fast as hell, great stick with a great toolbox of offensive moves. The 93 draft was pretty loaded up top and I dont think there was a scout out there who didnt have Daigle as the #1 overall choice.
Ottawa really screwed up his development though as they already had a very good center in Yashin. Yashin came in more ready for the NHL and quickly took over the #1 line in Ottawa. The Sens had no depth and Daigle was forced to play on a line with a bunch of journeymen which allowed teams to just key on him and knock him around. This hampered his growth. Daigle actually looked fantastic when he played on the same line as Yashin where he played as a RW. Yashin who was more of a goal scorer than a playmaker meshed well with Daigle on the PP as this gave Daigle the space to make things happen on offense. This was the perfect situation for both players and the Sens SHOULD have worked the 2 players together on the 1st line.
That didnt happen and Daigle just got hammered on the 2nd line which led to some injuries which led to lower production which led to less time on the ice. It was a vicious circle for Daigle and it really took a toll on his confidence as well as his athletic ability and overall game.
I can appreciate all your research and anybody who points out what a tool Pierre Maguire is deserves respect. But your sing song delivery drives me to drink.
If McGuire says anything to do with hockey, you can bet it’s a bad take.
Alexander was a great junior player. He just couldn’t make the step up, which was amazing considering what he did before the nhl.
You guys remember when Pierre McGuire said Filip Forsberg would forever be a Capital when he was drafted, then he immediately got traded to Nashville?
i remember watching the Yakupov draft (and Maguire lambasting Edmonton for not taking Ryan Murray) but I totally missed the Kharlamov comparison. Truly unhinged!

Well this year is exactly 10 years and we'll finally get to see Jay Feaster's Mark Jankowski prediction and Jankowski seemed to have started the year tearing it up in AHL and is now with the Predators.
Daigle will be remembered as #1 and #2

I still like that Matt Barzal is the 5th best player from his draft picked 15th by the New York Islanders.
Did montreal Win any cups with Price? Nope. Price would probably have a few rings if he was drafted or traded to a team with proper management.

Yakapov not only was a NHL bust but the guy is playing 3rd/4th line mins in the KHL so not even good over there either 🤣

Daigle lacked the 1 thing you need to be great HEART especially for the game he did not care for the sport was about being drafted #1 getting a big check that was it
