Craig Button: “Lane Hutson is going to need Reinbacher!”
We talked to the one and only Craig Button after the Habs draft Austrian defenceman David Reinbacher 5th overall at the 2023 NHL Draft. What are your thoughts on the Habs picking Reinbacher?
Im starting to get over it after the habs took Reinbacker but there is also something i dont understand….
Why would MTL take a Dman when we know the 2024 draft might be stacked with Dmans, we could’ve maybe draft Michkov and then wait the next year or maybe trade for a decent Defender.
I don’t feel like you’re really listening to what he saying. You mention PLD, drafting a Centre wouldn’t replace PLD, because that Center won’t be nhl ready until 3 years from now. You also mention a Montreal needing wingers, and that couldn’t be further from the truth. They have Newhook, Dach, Caufield, Gallagher, Anderson, Armia, Juraj, Slavkovski,
Wingers can be found later in the draft, centres and defenceman of the most important things to draft early.
Habs fans' reactions have been a joke. It really drives home the point of how toxic our fanbase can be. Show the kid some respect, and stop acting like you have inside information on Michkov. Vast majority of people upset are only repeating what others have said about Michkov. Clowns.
"Nobody saw it coming"… Maybe in your echo chamber, but in others Reinbacher was highly rated and fifth on some lists. Mathias Brunet (La Presse) and Snake Boisvert were happy with this pick (though they would have preferred Michkov) and they also think Ryan Leonard is way overhyped, even predicting the Caps will regret picking him so high! Leonard is limited offensively and benefits from his more talented linemates in their mind. We'll have to wait and see…
Arizona passed on Michkov too. I feel that justifies the Habs in not taking him at 5th. Arizona drafted a defenceman at 6th, which suggests to me that they would have taken Reinbacher at 6th if we hadn't.
I respect what you guys are doing and understand why you focus so much on the top player. The 1st round the flashy pick. But before you start to criticizes you need to educate yourself on the habs prospect pool. You didn’t see to keen on Lane even tho he was the best D-Man in the NCAA this year and you don’t know about Joshua Roy.
I wouldnt be surprised if we trade our LD in a package for a top 6 winger. We have a load of defence that we can trade…heck even Matheson could be ship to a contender
it's been over 30 years since we had a scorer put up 40 goals or 100 points. Born in 95? You've never seen it. You've seen Sheldon surey, Andrie Markov, Subban, Webber, ect. Who have you seen on offense? Max paccoriety? This may turn out great but call a spade a spade, this on face value is a disappointment
You don't pick a solid defensemen at 5. The Habs had 5 rookie defensemen play last year another 5 defensemen are really good prospects. Unless makar or doughty are at 5 you pick a skilled forward. Shitty draft pick at 5 and trade with Colorado. Best draft since 2003 and we trade 2 picks . Montreal could have traded down with Philly and packaged 22 31, and 37 to move up in the mid teens. Then have 2 picks in the top 16. Passed on michkov, it's Denis Savard all over again.
The kids plays in a pro league now. He’s the best right shot D…. His skating is at NHL level now. Longest wing span D in the draft. He won’t play in Montreal for 2 to 3 years anyway. These hockey guys are full of you know what…..free meals and dinners is all they know……Mitcov has a KHL contract for the next 3 years in Russia. Only one kid from this first round will play in NHL next season probably, obviously the first pick.
If the naysayers don't like who was drafted, maybe they should become managers or scouts. Good luck there. I'm lucky enough to see them first hand hoisting that cup several times. It's a different league now, see how awesome the leafs and oilers were in the playoffs with all those forwards and scoring. Meh
After analyzing the draft and getting over my first impressions, I realized Montreal planned this. At pick number 5, they drafted the best player available, and he was their unanimous pick. He was the player they wanted.
People will come to their senses with time and regret their negativity. David Reinbacher is an amazing young man.
They have lots of good forwards?? Who? Caufield, and Suzuki??? MAYBE Dach, but not really! That matches up great against teams like Toronto, Tampa, Edmonton, and even Chicago now. The best pick was Leonard, and if not him, Michkov. I believe we didnt get any better from this draft, and it was such a deep pool of offence. Habs management REALLY dropped the ball, & that's a huge understatement. I hate listening to people try to justify it, and more and more people are now, because they feel bad for Reinbacher. As so I, he didnt pick himself! This is all on Hughes and Gorton. I guess they are getting to see both sides of the fan base now, it's been all super great til they made this AWFUL pick. It was a SHIT pick, please stop trying to justify it, and please dont tell me how defense is important, I know this, and I dont hate Reinbacher, im sure he will have a fine career. He just isn't who we should have chosen with our 5th pick, they should have at least traded up to 8th or 9th spot (if they HAD to take Reinbacher), guess they didnt see the Kotkaniemi trade… then maybe it would have been SORT OF worth it, but still not really, but would have been better. Anyone who says the Habs need D more than offence right now, hasn't watched the Habs for the last 40 years, they CANT SCORE GOALS. Every time we see Leonard get a nice goal, or Michkov, it's gonna be that same kick in the nuts again, over and over for the next decade and a half, so buckle up Habs fans. And get ready for another year of finishing out of the playoffs, but high enough to not have a good pick, like they seem to do almost every year, and if they DO finish low enough to get a good pick, who knows now if they go that direction?? I lost all faith in this management, that i was so high on. Reinbacher's 3 goals will boost the Habs to stardom im sure… I have nothing against Reinbacher, im sure he will be a fine defensive defenseman, but the Habs NEED scoring. If u look at the team, it's not hard to see they need scoring, I still feel like i got kicked in the nuts, again and again.
People that think Reinbacher was an off the board pick didn’t inform themselves very well before the draft. A LOT of experts predicted them picking Reinbacher
“We need a winger; we have Suzuki, we have Slaf, who’s the guy that goes with them…?” I don’t know, I’m no expert, but a guy named Cole Caufield maybe…? I would have loved to get a high scoring winger too, but that question was ridiculous

It's cool that Button takes time for a small Youtuber.
THE DRUGS MUST BE STRONG IN MONTREAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!
booo bad pick……. most teams have an adam larsen type d…we needed more top end offense!

He has better numbers than Roman Josi at the same age in the same league fyi. Wait and see. Calm the f*ck down retards
Anyone else see reinbacher walk right by them at 1:33 lmao
Most likely Yotes would have drafted Reinbacher if Habs taken Mitchkov or Leonard

Newhook

"We need a winger! We have Suzuki, we have Slaf… Who's the guy going to play with them?" … Bro. Did something happen to Cole Caufield??? 😭

Not every ranked top 10 will become superstars. Some will be busts. We took the top ranked defenseman.
Damn Button think he is going to be good :/ guess we got a flop
Craig is "Money" 💸 💰 as commentator 😊
Goaltender good idea 💡 😊
This choice reminds many of the 1980 NHL draft, when the Habs chose Doug Wickenheiser over the great Dennis Savard. ✔️
Why should Hutson hold back Rienbacker s offense back because he's a shrimp? There were No shrimp Defenseman in the NHL playoffs .
She bashed the Oilers taking Bouchard. It'$ often wrong. De÷rp
In my mind you draft the best available, they could have traded " down" afterwards
Words of wisdom from Mr. Button.

dude this is SO cool you guys got craig, did ya just walk up to him and ask? how did this go down?!?!?
Man is this interviewer ever biased. Does he know how to do journalism? Keep emotions out of it and s
Dont impose your view?
Craig put Martin St-Louis on waver… How does he still have a job?
button brings up good points. could the habs have used a guy like Ryan Leonard though?

Is Caufield chopped liver? Slaf won't be playing with Suzuki, unless Caufield is hurt, they are both LW
Craig is amazing. Good interview.
You should have interviewed your chair instead.
You got clam down!! The Habs d core will be the best in the league in a couple of years. David reinbacher was a great pick !
Habs would probably have pick michkov if they would pick 6 since arizona would have take reinbacher
