When Taylor Hall was dealt to the Chicago Blackhawks last week, the expectation among fans was the Boston Bruins were clearing space to re-sign Tyler Bertuzzi.
Not the case.
The Bruins needed to clear space to fill out the roster, and the did that on July 1 by signing Milan Lucic, James van Riemsdyk, Kevin Shattenkirk, Morgan Geekie, and Patrick Brown to deal that equal Hall’s old cap hit.

The Bruins will have a lot of cap space next year, Burt will be a free agent next year, never say never.
Personally, I think Sweeney did a masterful job once again in managing this team through this upcoming season. Therre is a reason Yzerman did not sign his former player (Bertuzzi) Despite his abundant cap room.
For the cap room boston had I thought Sweeney did a great job, as a fan I said go all in last year knowing this would be the case, just sadly came up short last year,
Yes the bertuzzi thing stings but it was Bert’s choice in the end, we tried , I would of loved to see us get Blake wheeler for 850k other than that no complaints, hopefully #37 or #46 comeback highly unlikely Krejci is but just one would be nice

Lucic is a massive upgrade from Fliggy

Both have great character/room guys
Lucic not the fastest skater but think he’s faster then fliggy
Better fighter, better hitter, and comparable for points
I think fliggy looks like he’s played 5500 games always seems a step behind great personality amazing guy, but just for the contract and term I think Lucic all day
