NHL free agency has slowed down quite bit but the Stars were still active on Sunday as they signed defenseman Gavin Bayreuther to a 1 year deal worth $775,000. Bayreuther will add some decent depth for the Stars organization, but there is still the feeling that more needs to be done for the the defense to be at a championship caliber. Today Dane gives his thoughts on why we need to be patient with the construction of the Stars blue line. We can’t expect all of the problems to be solved in one day, and given how talented the Stars roster is, that’s okay.

Can’t wait
What position does this guy play? Defense or Forward?? They need to improve the Blue liners. I guess you can always score goals faster and more efficient, not sure how you improve offensively. Sounds like his production needs to improve not many goals scored. Stronger defensive players would help a lot. I don’t feel like they’ve done enough to improve the defense.
Feels like a body for Cedar Park while Nils and Harley get full time minutes in the NHL.
They are clearly expecting Nils to rise to the challenge. The Miller trade doesn't bother me; Hanley ended up playing 13 of 19 games – mostly for Miller, in the playoffs. Bayreuther is solid and we'll be fine. Definitely the long game on the d-pairs, but not that long… I think Bichsel is going to be in the NHL sooner than expected. Bourque is being given extra time to come up, so unless he has a stellar camp, i wouldn't expect him this year. Stankoven is the wild card as i view it. Maybe he can be a Wyatt-like youngster ready to go. Aside from that, Steel in my view replaces Kivi, Smith replaces Glenny, Duchene replaces Domi. We're in excellent shape.
What about Adam s out of Idaho
Why about Petrovic. He’s a veteran, hits and has some grit. Why can’t we bring him up from the minors.

Honestly this team next year is gonna be crazy the offense is as deep as it physically could be. As for defense I am decently sure offense should be better with Nil coming into place.
