  1. The NHL is a copy cat league. This season, we're going to see several teams attempt to play the style of play that Florida and Vegas played with forechecking, backchecking, hell, checking everywhere. And since Vegas won, we'll see teams trying to get as large on D as possible. That, to me, explains the Holl contract. He's 6'3" 200 lbs… about the Vegas average from last season.

  2. I really don't see how any of these moves can hurt us. Aside from Compher all these signings are stop gaps and will be off the books before we need to pay young guys. As was stated we have 37.5mil in cap next off season and will be in the same situation where we need to sign stop gap players just to hit the cap floor. Pretty good situation where you need to sign players to hit the cap floor. We can overpay a bit for short term deals like the Holl deal. The goal isn't to win the cup with Holl. It's to win it with Seider, Edvinsson, Wallinder, Johansson, Sandin Pellikka, Buium, Tuomisto, Raymond, Kasper, Soderblom, Berggren, Rasmussen, Cossa, etc.

  3. The Team needed Depth, they got Depth. There wasn't any major Stars for them to get, I don't know what people were expecting for real.

  4. He tried so hard to be patient at first, but Yzerman just hates to lose and that could be the long term downfall of the team. It will certainly limit the team's ceiling.

  5. They've improved statistically and would have done these moves regardless of the superstar talent we may have gotten. Nothing here is surprising

  6. Id say its 50/50 yzerman doesnt know shit about defense clearly giving up hronek and getting holl for only a million less -_- the offense got better with J.T and sprong but I dont think they'll be playoff ready

  7. Coming from a Leafs fan, Holl was absolutely atrocious! Nearly every time he was on the ice he gave up the puck in one way or another, leading to an opportune scoring chance or goal against us. I pray for you guys… Also, wtf was Yzerman thinking with this one???

  8. After some time to let it marinate, I'm generally happy with FA.
I love the depth and internal competition.
Also this isnt the final depth chart, its July 4th.
I Still believe a trade is coming.

The Holl contract isnt too bad, that just seems to be the current price for bottom pair defense. There's players I would have preferred, but price wise its comparable to other teams signings.
He played 20 min a night last year, I'd prefer a bit less in Detroit. Hopefully not having the pressure of the Toronto market lessens his blunders over the course of 82.

I like that all 5 of the veteran dmen are being paid 3-4 million. No feelings of " we are paying this guy to play top 4 minutes " .
I wanna see ghost with matta and holl with chariot. Neither pairing playing true 2nd line minutes. Seider and walman will do the heavy lifting 5on5. Ghost gets a few extra minutes on PP and offensive zone face offs. Holl chariot and Matta will get their PK minutes. Bottom 4 guys should all be 18-20 minutes, walman a touch over 20 being with seider. Seider 26ish being #1 and playing all situations. It's better than last years group and edvinsson demanding a spot sooner rather than later makes things really interesting.

I've gone on long enough so I wont say much about the forward core. Its deep, zadina as of clearing waivers is the 14th forward. Sprong is used to playing zadina's exact roll, but effectively and efficiently.
Still going to be a low scoring team, but I think this roster is capable of being in the top half of the league defensively.
Should be an improved team, how much improved depends on the youth. Can berggren build on last year? Can seider get even better? Can Raymond break out??

Training camp is a long ways away and I cant wait. I expect kasper and edvinsson to make things interesting

  9. Perron Larkin Raymond
    Copp Compher Kubilak
    Rassmusen Bergan Kostin
    Fabbri Soderstrom Fischer
    Ghost Seider
    Walllman Holl
    Chariot Maata

They still can get veleno and Kasper in and maybe more

I still think they should push for karlson… no point of having fabbri their….

Fabbri Zadina 1st and a couple prospects….they can prob take on his full salary as well…

  10. In Colorado we're still shaking our heads over JT's deal. He definitely got more than double of what he's worth. Good for him and I wish him all the best though.

  11. As an Avs fan I love J.T, he is a very good 3c who can slot up in the lineup as well when needed (with injuries and stuff), and would've absolutely loved having him as the third center in Colorado but that AAV is brutal. Hopefully he can be a solid 2nd center for you!

  12. holl’s advance stats are better than i thought. toronto fans just give him a bad wrap. less pressure in detroit should suit him well i hope

  13. we're paying a guy 5 million a year, who will only give us a legit 50-70 games and only averages 28 points throughout his career lol He is best friends with Copp, you know damn well he heard about the free juice that yzerman is willing to sign.

  14. It's definitely quite a batch Yzerman signed but I think there's more going on. Yzerman certainly had to replace a bunch of guys he let go. Osterle, erne, bunch of people in GR, and Zadina getting waived. I think another question mark people need to look at is Fabbri. If he can't get and stay healthy and score probably around 35-40pts then Yzerman tries to move him or buys him out, and Yzerman wants a more NHL caliber player ready to replace him.
Same with having Bertuzzi replaced. I love bertuzzi but his injuries have really starred to become a problem.
