I was not expecting this..

OK Guys, its time to take a look at the NHL 2023 Draft, and the selection by the Montreal Canadiens at 5th overall… David Reinbacher? Over Matvei Michkov, Ryan Leonard, etc etc? I am not a big fan of this one, PROVE ME WRONG Reinbacher! Please!!! Prove me wrong!

  1. I'm finally done crying now 🤦‍♂️, but glad to see I'm not the only one thinking this exact way

  2. Right now, I like this better than the Newhook trade. We'll know in a few years what we got.

  3. Watching this live yesterday, I was gutted. I waited for months for this draft, expecting my team, Montréal, to pick a forward superstar, or at least a potential 40 goals a season scorer. Michkov was right there! Then they drafted a defenseman…

I'm so angry right now. For 20 years I followed this team and they've never had a strong offense! "But we needed a right handed defenseman to pair with Hutson!" That's drafting for need and there are plenty of defensemen available in the draft next year! Then they gave away 2 picks in the 30s for a 22 years old 3rd liner who managed to decline in a stacked contender team… and he's an RFA who just won the cup 1 year ago! How much is he gonna ask!?

Watching it again now, they just drafted a goalie at 69 overall… "deepest draft of forwards of the decade" but not for the Habs management! Screw us fans!

I swear, if Michkov becomes a superstar with the hated Philly Flyers, I will stop following hockey.

Hey, I was just told by the TV journos that Montréal had their sights on Matt Cataford, but he was taken by the VGK at 77. If only we had a pick at 69…

Mandatory "I have nothing against Reinbacher", but I wonder what kind of grudge does our management hold against him, to put this amount of pressure on the guy. Unless he is, at a minimum, the next Josi, he's an automatic bust. Talk about pressure…

  4. Defenseman Bogdan Konyushkov at 110 overall. Now they try drafting a Russian, but Michkov was "risky"…

  5. sadly a few of the teams that interviewed Michkov all have the same opinion as Hughes…. apparently he cheats a lot playing the game and some feel his talent will not convert well to the NHL……we need RD and Reinbacher was the best dman available and a RD… this will work out well for us..be patient

  6. Maybe Sam Harris of the 5th round will be the next forward star of the Habs… I can only laugh now. Chicago just gave my family a chuckle by drafting a guy named "Marcel Marcel" at 131 😅

  7. 3 goalies now… How many are they gonna draft this year? Not that it really matters at this point in the draft, but management really doesn't care about the forwards farm right now.

  8. Nothing against this kid but with ALL the young talented defence already in the system I ABSOLUTELY hated this pick!!

  9. The habs are the only team on the NHL to never have had a 100 point scorer in the past 30 years. Of your 30 or younger, your a fan of the only team who hasnt seen a player score 40 goals or get 100 points. The only team. The montreal Canadiens. This pick was the biggest risk the franchise could take, the kid will have to make seider look like a bottom 6 for this to have been worth it

  10. I told ya junkie, Reinbacher! And, he will be a stud top pair RHD which is what they needed. Farrell-Caufield-Newhook-Suzuki-Dach-Slafkovsky. Top6 is set at forward. Guhle-Reinbacher-Hutson-Xhekaj-Harris-Barron. They just picked 4 goalies at the draft. Fowler looks like a great pick in round 3.

  11. OK, so even D men picked 1st overall like Ekblad, Dahlin, Hedman take 3-4 years to become reliable at the NHL level. In Montreal, no one has the patience for that timeline, hence people like McDonagh, Sergachev and even to a point Romanov get shipped out before they fully develop. Reinbacher is at least 3 years away from being a helpful player, so why not take Michkov? I believe they will regret this pick the same way we all regret taking KK over Brady and Kostitsyn over ANYBODY in 2003! Why this franchise continues to outthink themselves at the draft is beyond me…like you said, prove me wrong and I’ll be happy with that.

  12. I’m from Montréal but now live in Europe, I stayed up until 2 am to watch the Habs pick in the hopes to see Michkov, Smith or Leonard get drafted… oh well, that’s a wasted night and a shitty day at work for nothing I guess…

  13. It was a safe pick. I was disappointed too, I really was hoping for a forward. I would been happier with Leonard. We need some bite. I’m ready to be proved wrong, and would be thrilled to be wrong this time!

  14. I probably preferred Leonard but l'd rather take the D-man we need rather than a maybe superstar who may be here in 3 years with an attitute no defence and maybe a price on his head

  15. It's a puzzle, and when every little piece comes together, bam!!! Hopefully this Austrian kid can be a solid piece of the puzzle

  16. Wasn’t pleased at first but after watching the post-draft interviews I’m starting to like the pick. He has excelled at every level and he seems very mature and collected. He’s gonna be a stud. There’s no way the habs were drafting the Russian anyway

  17. I trust the pick. They say montreal has enough defenseman… but cmon, after last years result, how can one say were okay on the back end? Lmao. We were better at goals for than goals against, which is not saying much cause… well.. most of the guys were out to lunch. With guys like Roy and beck coming up in the forward department, I think the habs have enough to develop to get some pucks in the net. Also, regarding michkov, his contract ends 2025-2026 and by then how certain are they going to be he's NHL ready? He's a gem for sure and could tear the league at some point but that's speculation 4 years down the road at least. Montreal seems to have enough projects that can make some magic happen in all departments now.

  18. To me Reinbacher is a great fit, finally we have the RHD we needed. And I love Newhook, a change of scenery will be good with St-Louis. Plus we picked Fowler as a good goalie prospect. Let's trust the process guys

  19. Couple of things. Very possible Michkov gave them negative vibes that he had no intention on signing with the Habs. Also, our goalie situation does not look particularly bright for the foreseeable future. History shows you can win in the playoffs with an average goalie, but you NEED a strong defense. I mean, even Carey Price can look weak with a leaky defense in front of him. So mobile, big defensemen it is. GHG!

  20. The best pick available from 2 onward was matvei, and the horrifying thing is that he might even put up better numbers than Bedard… but the "muh contract" shenanigans really exposed alot of the scouting going on…. reinbacher? Really? Get fucked habs

  21. I, for one, am just fine with the pick. It’s not a wow pick but it’s a safe pick. We know more about this kid than we do a guy like Michkov. Who knows ? Maybe Michkov might not even ever make it to the NHL because of the geo-political situation and if he does, maybe he’s another Sherbak or Galchenyuk or an asshole like that thankless s.o.b. Radulov who used us like a doormat to get back into the NHL. Anyway, correct me if I’m wrong but having a surplus of excellent young rookie defencemen can be used as trade bait for a good young forward (as long as you don’t trade for a Drouin type guy)

  22. Came away from the draft with 2 impact players. Best RHD in the draft and Newhook who will be a to 6 forward for years to come. That’s a pretty solid week!

  23. He and Slaf should start a emotional support group for rookies in montreal
