  1. But his original comment explicitly states he was talking about "the fans". Hard not to take that personally as a fan.

  2. They’re concerned about things being said about their city but they’ll burn it down after a loss?

  3. Horvat is responsible for what he says but he ain't responsible for what the fans hears. Honestly, his comments weren't bad and he's not obligated to apologize.

  4. People getting upset he wasn't talking about the fans he was talking about management bunch of snow flakes with 2 brain cells and are incompetent of putting together anything that resembles an intelligent thought geniuses 😂

  5. Let's not pretend there would be any more than 6,000 fans in the UBS Arena if the Islanders were in the position that Canucks have been in for the past 8 seasons. It was totally unnecessary for Horvat to make that comment. I can understand being frustrated with management, but to chirp fans who still showed up and supported through 8 years of bleep hockey (as Rick Dhaliwal would say)? Kind of a joke.

  6. This is not a controversy. Also, Friedman stopped short of assigning blame, which is interesting.

  7. Maybe he was pointing out that Islander fans have something to cheer for, a possible Cup run while Canucks fans (I'm one) are frustrated by an ownership/management team that has failed to produce a winner and so badly managed the salary cap that they had to trade away their captain, an allstar, most popular player, one of the most productive players and team leader. So I didn't see his comment as a dis of Canuck's fans but more a shot at ownership and management who treated him so badly this year an let their fans down.

  8. He's allowed to say what he wants, I don't think anyone is saying he can't. To expect the fans and the city of Vancouver to not swing right back at him after a comment like that is kind of ridiculous though, of course there's going to be backlash. He very clearly aimed that comment towards the fans "in the heat of the moment" when the fans have shown nothing but support for him over 9 years, even during the worst years in the teams history. There is no sensitivity here. Maybe Horvat is the one that's overly sensitive that the Canucks didn't want to be stuck with another over paid 8.5m contract for a mediocre 2nd line centremen that only stepped up his production right before contract negotiations, and that production has dropped off since then as expected.

  9. It’s pathetic that this qualifies as a “controversy” in the NHL.

  10. Let's be honest. Horvat screwed up massively (and he knows it, you can hear his voice quivering in the apology). Honestly, can you imagine Henrik, Trevor, Markus, Luongo or any other captain ever saying anything like that?
He knows he screwed up his goodwill legacy with the fans.

  11. Elliotte: "Online now is the mob."

PLEASE tell me you aren't this internet-illiterate! Every couple of shows you whine about "players need personalities" and how "there isn't any more real hate between teams/fanbases" and then what happens? The instant a player is saying something and some fans react, you're whining about the reaction!

Sorry, mate, but have you even heard of Vancouver? Calling folks online a mob implies they have one view, and that's obvious nonsense. It implies Canucks fans are a coherent group, which… no. Just no.

"Ha ha! This is great! Finally someone says something to get people angry!"
    people get angry
"Wait! No! Not like that! You're doing it wrong!"

    What exactly did you expect?

  12. This is a shot to Canucks management…For far too long, the Canucks management continue to do what they have been doing for all these years and keep getting away with it….I am sick of it and I am sure the Canucks fans are tired of it too…..The Canucks need a new ownership of the team… francesco Aquilini doesn't care about the team.
