What does Drew O’Connor’s salary arbitration mean for the Penguins?

Happy Thursday again! This time, there’s hardly any Erik Karlsson content for yinz as Hunter starts the show with some talk regarding Drew O’Connor. He dives into O’Connor filing for salary arbitration and what that means for him and the Penguins. He discusses how the two sides likely won’t have to go to arbitration and that a deal should be easy to negotiate before looking at how this opens up a second buyout window for the team. He discusses when the second buyout window would open and if it’s likely that the Penguins would use one considering that they did not during the regular window. He then moves on to his Metropolitan Division power rankings Post July 1 and where the Penguins stack up to the other teams in the division. Are they a playoff team? Are they outside the playoff picture right now? Finally, he ends the show by discussing Patric Hornqvist as he announced his retirement from the NHL on Wednesday.

  1. Hunter, DOC probably don't go to arbitration, but just for the example here. Say he does, the arbiter decides the amount of money. What about the term of the contract? Would that be a 50/50 negotiation between DOC and the Penguins?

  2. To be honest I've never thought as highly of DOC as a lot other people seem to. He shows flashes of a great player every now and then but not nearly often enough. If he could bring consistency he would be solid.

  3. I’ll never forget that last minute goal in game 6 against the preds I was going crazy loll I wish him a relaxing retirement

  4. Do you think DOC wanted to file? Or was asked to file by the team to open the 2nd window? Is rutta eligible for buy out since he makes under $4m?

  5. Does Sullivan evolve and play guys like DOC more? Or will he insist on Carter as the 3rd or 4th line center? Carter should sit in the press box more games than he dresses.
