Peter Stastny is a legend not only for NHL but also for Slovak ice hockey. In the year 1980 illegally left former Czechoslovakia and going to Québec, Canada where in local Nordiques begins his fantastic NHL career. In 1984 he obtained Canadian citizenship which allowed him to play in a Team Canada in a Canada Cup 1984. The leadership of his former country accepted his nomination with outrage. Newspapers, television, radio, all of them had a practically embargo on information about his performance in the tournament. Commentators of Czechoslovak television were not allowed to pronounce his name during the matches.

Stastny playing against his former nation… i believe the Stastny's were from Slovakia.
Next year, 1985, Czechoslovakia beat Canada in World Championship final in Prague. Canada´s team was not as strong as this one, but with new young stars Francis, Lemmieux, Yzerman etc.
Peter Stastny played against Czechoslovakia also in two friendly matches before Canada Cup 1984 (Halifax – august 25 and 26, in results – 5:4, 3:2). Even with his brother Anton who in a first match scored one of goals.
The fuck is so legendary about that? Was a very basic deke. Just because it was against a team he defected from?

Our match comentator in CS was not allowed to mention his name during the game because few years before this game, he escaped to the west.
This match began with now legendary Dominik Hasek (19-years old at that time) guarding the Czechoslovak goal. Unfortunately for him, he was replaced by Jaromir Sindel later during the game. So the goal Stastny scored on this video was against the latter goalie.

Šťastný emigroval , chtěl žít v jiném světě , splnilo se mu to . Byla to jeho osobní volba . Slepička tady zůstal , musel vyšlapovat v linií soudruhů , aby si udržel lukrativní kšeft . Cesty na západ , lepší život v reálném socialismu . Bylo tady Československo s bezmála 15 miliony obyvatel . Všichni téměř tak trochu vyšlapovali v linií bolševiků . Někteří coby perspektivní svazáci byli měsíc před sametovou revolucí na celostátním aktivu se soudruhem Jakešem v Lucerně . Co je potom trapnější , mlčení Slepičky , nebo kyselé vstřícné úsměvy svazáckých záloh z roku 1989 ? Internet je dnes plný bojovníků proti komunistům po pádu systému , kdy už za to nic nehrozí . Z jednoho mého známého se stal tehdy doslova přes noc bojovník proti komunistům , když už nic za to nehrozilo . Přitom celá jejích familie využívala svých známostí sahajících k normalizatorovi Husákovi . Doba plná paradoxů .
