Kailer Yamamoto and Klim Kostin trade reaction

It’s always a hard time day when fan favourites get traded and that’s exactly what happened yesterday as the Edmonton Oilers traded Kailer Yamamoto and Klim Kostin to the Detroit Red Wings for future considerations.

With money being as tight as it is in Edmonton, it wasn’t at all surprising to see Ken Holland trade Kailer Yamamoto as a means of saving some space. That said, I’m sure we would have all liked to see a return better than zero — yeah I know they gained the cap space but you know what I mean. To make matters worse, at least for some of us, it looks like the payment to have Detroit take Yamo off our hands was to include Klim Kostin, a fan favourite that came over from the St. Louis Blues only last year. While there were rumours that Kostin could have ended up back in Russia, I was always hoping that this was a bargaining tactic by his agent. Unfortunately, the Real Klim Shady is going to be a Red Wing for the foreseeable future and that hurts. As for Yamamoto, news broke this morning that he’s being bought out by Detroit and will be hitting the open market when free agency kicks off tomorrow. With that in mind, I figured I would do a quick farewell to two of our favourites as we wait to see who comes in to replace them.

  1. It also sucks with klim because the oilers basically turned his career around. Traded here and then called up and in like the first handful of games he instantly became a fan favorite. I get that he wants money but he shouldve done the oilers a solid just like they did for him a year prior and sign a 1 year deal with a lower cap and then see what the cap is next offseason. It is what it is but I’ll miss klim

  2. Kostin is Russian, Woodcroft is Ukranian. Petty politics by Woodcroft is disgusting. Only played Klim 3 to 4 minutes in Vegas. I have lost all respect for Woodcroft and Holland. Never had much respect for Holland as a GM from day one but especially after the Campbell signing.

  3. Kostin found ways to be seen and make an impact on the ice. A hit, a goal, a scoring chance, a fight, getting into a scrum. A lot of guys could feel invisible out there but when kostin was out there you usually knew and you watched
