  1. Giordano is a player everyone loves to see succeed. Had to earn in his into the league and for a while was one of the best.

BUT im pretty suspicious of how accurately they track blocked shots. Just saying skeptic he’s probably the leader since tracking this has been a thing, but how accurate is that final number guessing off by a lot and who know if it’s more or less…..

  2. The Leafs instantly got better when Gio joined. Plays with as much passion as anyone on the team and then some. One of my favourites.

  3. when i played my go to was blocking shots, faceoffs and playing net front got injured a few times but that's the game

  4. Lol I wouldn't give a player a standing ovation who couldn't commit to being a captain for a whole season before getting traded.

  5. Being a blocked shots leader is like being a low Corsi leader. It means you are spending too much time in time in your own zone. Nothing to be proud of, really.

  6. I would love to play like Giordano, of the defensemen in the league, he's my favorite today. Shot blocking is something I took pride in when I played, and my heroes reflect that the first shot blocker and one of the best ones, Bob Goldham. Mark Giordano has done the man proud and I think deserves an A on the Leafs and whatever else they can give him.

  7. Let's all keep in mind blocked shots is a stat that's only been kept since 2004. It's very likely that many many other players have blocked more shots than him.

  8. I played defense in high school and never scored many goals. Blocked shots were my personal favorite stat.

  9. I don't know why but this record made me think of Coach on Cheers…he held the record for most times beaned in the head.

  10. Blocked shots is nothing to sneeze at. All hockey players past/present/future KNOW exactly what it means…

  11. Did not realize his amazing Hockey qualities till he became a Leaf! Deserves all the accolades and then some!

  12. Gio’s tribute happened after he scored. You see on the jumbotron that it’s 1-1….. and he scored their first goal…….. but I still get what you’re saying. What a rockstar. Go leafs

  13. blocking shots is the worst. normally its off the gear it hurts but its worth it, but sometimes you get hit in a place with no gear and it is brutal. Their was one dude I played against, dude was a giant and one of the hardest slap shots i ever seen. took one of his slappers in the ankle and dude bruised my bone for like 3-4 weeks. i didn't even know you could do that till i was at the doctors because it hurt so bad few days after lol.

  14. The tribute was actually done AFTER Gio scored, not before. You can see it when you put up the video tribute on the scoreboard that it is 1-1.

  15. You have it backwards, Gio scored then they did the tribute to him during the first media timeout. Regardless it was a legendary night for him and us fans felt it lol. Hopefully you didnt waste too much time watching this game lol it was very one sided.

  16. As a Leaf fan I can say frm the beginning of the season he has been my favorite player to watch, just his poise and good decision making and thts after ofc him blocking shots

  17. nucks fan here. this is why the leafs should pick up luke schenn. then they would have the all time leader in blocked shots-gio AND the all time leader in hits-schenn. talk about elite levels of sandpaper on the blueline.

  18. Being fairly new to hockey, I didn't know much about Gio until he was a Leaf. He's been great for the Leafs. Absolutely love him!

  19. I bought some pro stock hp45x pants to block shots in beer league. Puck still sneaks into unpadded parts and hurts like f.

  20. I’m not a Flames fan but he was an awesome player when he was in Calgary, he and his wife did so much for the community too. I told his wife that Mark was going to get Norris and she said “really?!!! You think so???” I said “yup he’s a hell of a player and I’m positive he will”
He got Norris that year and then he went to Seattle after. Glad he’s still playing
