The Toronto Maple Leafs Are Trying To SCARE The NHL.

#nhl #hockey #torontomapleleafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs are in the middle of a MASSIVE NHL offseason. After failing to retain some key players, new GM Brad Treliving went to work by signing Tyler Bertuzzi, Max Domi, John Klingberg, and Ryan Reaves. By adding some much needed toughness in all areas of the game.. is this finally what the Leafs need to have real playoff success? We break it down in this video.

Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, John Tavares, and William Nylander

  1. lol…. Reaves is a complete waste of a roster spot…. please dress him for all 82 games and the first round loss.

  2. I mean honestly right now it seems like it’s the same 4 guys and a bunch of random players they threw into a room and said here your a team play like it. Idk how well that’s gonna work, they got scoring they had a great defense last year their goaltending isn’t bad just the leadership has been kinda meh when it comes to playing in the playoffs and have not produced and that’s where I’d be concerned as a leafs fan

  3. Great job. Even better than expected. Now send Matthews, Marner, etc. to kung fu camp for the summer.

  4. How are they gonna pay for all this new grit tho? They’re currently $8,831,450 over the cap for next year. You can’t say they’re improving or getting better when their team is currently illegal to run, and they’ll have to get actively worse to get under that cap hit

  5. Pretty sure we just ensured we'd get 4-7 PP goals against us next playoff series.

  6. Now we have a shift disturber on 3 of those lines. NHL is about to wake up to a nightmare!! 🔥🔥🔥

  7. Holy hell! I didn't know they got all these bad asses! I'm going to actually wanna watch The Leafs now.

  8. Here's my take on the whole thing, including the Leafs' signings up to this point (July 6th, 2023). I'll just share what I posted on one of Steve Dangle's videos recently…

Sorry for such an incredibly long comment, but say WHAT now??? The Leafs had a "responsible" defense last year??? The Leafs' defense has been absolute garbage on this team for YEARS! Not since the Kaberle era have the Leafs had a defense worth a crap with any consistency. The only two defensemen the Leafs should have kept were Morgan Reilly and Luke Schenn, and freakin' OF COURSE they let Schenn go!

It's a well-known fact that the ENTIRE league knows that Toronto's defense is a pushover, and has been for YEARS. The problem is: Leaf defenders play with their sticks, not their bodies. Any other team knows they can skate right into our zone and not get roughed up at all. Time after time, Leaf defensemen don't even play the most fundamental aspect of their position by simply using their bodies to disrupt the flow of play in our own end, which is the BARE MINIMUM of any defenseman's job! The sad part is, is these are fundamentals of the game that players learn as a kid, yet they hardly do it. Instead, they get caught chasing around our own end while the other team passes and cycles the puck at will, and half the time they get caught standing there like a bunch of pylons with their feet are stuck in mud, and yet again, they always try to play defense with their sticks and hardly ever put their bodies on the line. How in the hell are you supposed to win playoff hockey with a team that plays that way??? Their results year after year show how well that's worked out for them.

Let's be intellectually honest: how many times per game – per period, PER SHIFT – do you see the Leafs' defense chase around and let the other team's offense skate around and dictate THEIR own game without the Leafs' defense using their bodies, while only using their sticks in a lame attempt to break up the flow of play? It's sickening! And here we are with the new additions of Max Domi and Tyler Bertuzzi, that give us the potential of more points (that is, if they bounce back and stay healthy!), but neither one of them are great in their own end, defensively. Bunting was a good two-way player. Domi and Bertuzzi? Not so much. The worst part is this has been a perennial issue time after time, year after year! It's like Groundhog Day over and OVER again with this team.

The sad part is, despite all the "talent" we have on this team, our defensive woes are not the only perennial issues…

Leafs' defensive physicality? SUCKS! D-zone coverage? SUCKS! Puck clearing? SUCKS! Mid-ice transitional game? SUCKS! CONSTANT D-zone to blue line long passes through neutral ice that gets picked off all the time? SUCKS! More turnovers than a god damn bakery? SUCKS! A perimeter offense that hardly ever caries the puck through the offensive zone, or through middle ice, and just plays the dump and chase game? SUCKS!

The worst part? All of this is coachable stuff! Which is another gripe I've had for years with this team is ineffectual coaching. Time after time they bring in coaches that fail to coach a style of hockey with sound fundamentals, which only allows all of these things to reoccur year after year. It's pathetic. It's astounding that Sheldon Keefe is still around as head coach after showing the lack of fundamental hockey he instills in his players. For that reason alone, this team will NEVER win under him. HE HAS TO GO.

As a Leaf fan: this is the most talented SHIT team in the entire league, and these recent signings haven't done a damn thing to correct that. The way I see these acquisitions is we're "better" offensively (yet to be determined!), but now we're even worse off defensively, which was already an issue!

The thing is: the Leafs can get away with playing marginal fundamentals during the regular season, and outscore and overcome all of their faults due to the scoring prowess they do have, but that dog don't hunt in the postseason. The fundamentals of this team have been crap for years and it's SO maddening, and SO tiring. This team damn well better find a way to build a defense that can play fundamental hockey, INCLUDING using their bodies. And they better tighten up all the other crap they do, or else it's going to continue to be Groundhog Day over and over, and over, and OVER again. "Gritty" players don't assure you that. Only fundamentally sound hockey players do…not to mention a fundamentally sound coaching staff. The Leafs are still FAR from accomplishing that. The finger tapping continues, and my patience is running thin…

  9. Players like Reaves are enormously underrated of the type of energy they feed to their team. You can't measure that with single player stats.

  10. Hockey Psychology should ask his Doctor if Haldol is right for him? 🤣😂🤣🍁🍁💙🤡

  11. As a Bruins fan, the last time they won the cup 3/4s of the team was tough as nails and willing to fight for every inch of ice. Since then they took the Leafs approach and their record speaks for itself. The Big Bad Bruins have become the Soft One and Done Bruins getting bullied out of the playoffs by the Panthers, Canes, Islanders, Blues etc.

  12. Foolish fans the league is rigged bet on the team the league wants to win think of how the wwf operated thats when it started.

  13. When have the leafs tried this route since Matthew’s, Marner were brought in? Don’t say Simmonds because he sat in the press box 75% of the time! Under Kyle Dubas this team has never been tough. It’s always been soft and thank god Brad Brad Treliving is changing that.

  14. Leaf fans for 44 years finally gave up on this cest pool city !! You hire bums like Matthews and keep paying him to be bum. The lack of intelligence in Toronto is insane .. city of immigrants . Change the team name to immigrants of middle East

  15. Domi is only tough if you have your back turned. Should put up some points though. Bertuzzi is a really good pick up. Reaves in nothing, among the last of the goons who really dont have any skill.

  16. ''Worse Defensively'' tf are you even talking about… why cuz a couple forwards we got?…. youre buggin lmfao you do know holls gone…and we signed better defensemen… but ok

  17. Come on 😅😅 Reaves will play 30 games..Berts will play 20 before his injured and Domi is no where near his dad lol

  18. I can't wait for this upcoming season with the new additions to the team. I hope there are more changes to come. However, I'm sad to see Schenn, Acciari and O'Reilly go. I think the Leafs should trade Lilgegren and Robertson. This would help the Leafs find a tougher defenceman and some more size to replace Robertson. They should give Wayne Simmonds some good ice time, he's a solid player, but Keefe just didn't give him a proper chance last season. Any team that's going to win a Stanley Cup needs size and toughness. Skill alone is not enough. This is Canada, not Sweden, Czechia or Russia. The NHL has always been a physical league, even if the politically correct pacifists are trying to change it into ice badminton.

  19. Need every player to be more scrappier and dish out and take hits more than the Leafs have done in years. Bring back the days of Gilmour, Clark and Domi. Offensive players need to play like Ovechkin, he's like a forward offensive defenceman how he plays his game.

  20. Your click bait titles are retarded. Leafs are soft. Bertuzzi is a decent player but will drop off shortly on how he plays.

No cup for the leafs for another 50+ years
