I still believe in the YzerPlan but let’s face it- if his name wasn’t Steve Yzerman we’d all be raising hell if our GM was STILL talking about rebuilding……
I dont know why folks dont get it. Just like Brad holmes, Stevie is digging out of a deep whole and is not rushing the process just to make the playoffs and not be a true contender

If we were in the West the progress would be obvious. The wings were in ‘contention’ for the playoffs this year. People forget. Historically difficult division. A lot of guys have a long way to go to their ceiling. The plan is moving along. Debrincat or Willy Nylander pull that plan a long way forward no doubt…
Without Cat Wings are NOT making the playoffs…have you even taken a look at the Eastern conference? Who are they going to beat out?
success is nothing less than 3 rings on Mo Seider's hand. That is what Stevie is aiming for. Not making the 1st round for 3 to 5 years to get bounced. Everyone needs to stfu and appreciate the attention to detail that Stevie is putting into this team. Imagine thinking you are a better GM than Stevie f*ckin Yzerman. Laughable. And as a life long fan, I don't care about the playoffs. I care about watching our boys absolutely mop up for 3 or 4 years in a row similar to the Lightning. #LGRW #HEYHEYHOCKEYTOWN
I've been saying this for at least a year now: I'd rather miss the playoffs for 3-4 consecutive seasons, then turn around and make deep runs for 10+ years with a cup final appearance (a return to what we saw in the 90s-2010's), than rushing the rebuild and making the playoffs, only to be perennial 1st round exits like the wild or jets. Steve is trying to build a juggernaut of a team which doesn't happen overnight. Hockey rebuilds take much longer since developing players to the NHL level can be tricky. All the fans need is patience, which is extinct in 2023.
Prime example of a rebuild done RIGHT is the Devils. That team was a dumpster fire, rebuilding for a solid 6-8 years, up until this past season which they were unbelievable. Just got bounced in the playoffs due to their youth and inexperience. With time, they will more than likely hoist a cup within 5-6 years from now.

This is what made Stevie's spending spree last year so perplexing to me. Without the spree we would have lost a few more games and been in position to draft Michkov. Instead we still suck and are drafting mid round-ish. The difference between having Michkov and Danielson is like mountain to moles! We should have been focused on the draft last season, not competing! This rebuild is going to continue to take terribly long because we aren't drafting at the top of the order.
Vegas ownership wanted a Cup and did it in six years. What's worse the Yzerplan or the Shanahan plan in Toronto
Its not like there was a Stamkos and Co. here to build around. Like it or not its going to take years for these players to mature into something. Media and fans can whine about results but Yzerman isnt going to half ass this team making desperate deals that cap out the team and piss away assets just to get in the playoffs.
I’m not surprised because it’s the right decision.
We need a healthy root system that lasts.
Detroit stands for that.

Lol going to the playoffs… They're not going to the playoffs. Delusional… Even with DeBrincat. With Debrincat the team wouldn't be a dumpster fire and might be watchable is all, he's also young enough to build around. People act like one day Red Wings are just going to be a Stanley cup contender without ever actually having to make a playoff appearance first or consistently make them.

I don't get what people don't understand. When they traded Bert (justified because they couldn't come to terms) and Hronek (not justified while trying to contend), they reset the timeline for the franchise. They moved the timeline from Larkin/Bert/Hronek to Seider/Raymond/and the younger guys (including these picks). The timeline has been pushed out 3 – 5 years. Not saying DeBrincat won't wind up with the Wings (I'd guess next year during free agency), but he no longer fits the timeline. I bet you will see the Wings sign older guys to shorter contracts.
