  1. I'll never forget his cup winning goal against Nashville from behind the net. Against the team who drafted him.

  2. The Orange County (California Register has a sportswriter named Randy Youngman who started a thing every year to celebrate the last player drafted in the NFL. He referred to the player as "Mr. Irrelevant" and would bring that player to SoCal for all kinds of tongue-in-cheek events, including the awarding of the "Lowsman Trophy." (get it?) Of course, the football Mr. Irrelevant didn't always make it to the NFL.

Sounds like Patric Hornquist is the hockey equivalent, but that he had a very successful career.

  3. I was a penguins fan I loved Patric Hornqvist and Pittsburgh has been missing players like him in our line up. That’s why we can’t get out of the first round. Players like Max Talbot, Jordan stall, Chris Kunitz, Pascal Dupuis. The only player that kind of plays that type of game that we’ve had here in the last 4-5 years is basically Sidney Crosby. I mean I guess I could throw in Jason zucker too but, to me, Zucker wasn’t as effective as those other guys were. The Penguins organization I think really wanted Zach Aston Reese to be like that and he just never wanted to be like that. I don’t think he can anyway.

  4. puck possession monster and somewhat of an analytical darling, underrated player

  5. Very much like Simon Gagne and Alex Tanguay. Players who have skill, hockey sense, and grit, and Cups.

  6. i was so mad when pit traded james neal. malkin and neal were a real treat to watch, esp. that year they had 90 goals between eachother. if you replaced neal with horny on those Cup winning teams, tho, I dont think the Pens win them. he was that vital to those championships. such a warrior on the ice. it's hard to believe that a team led by sid could have someone like horny come in and just completely change the culture (big shoutout to sully too). and it's cliche and kinda corny, at this point, but he's an even better person off the ice. he's a beaut. and he'll be missed.

  7. Crazy that GMJR arguably won the trade for and sending out Hornqvist that Hextall then of course ruined

  8. Dude comes back from a neck injury gets crosschecked to the ice and then gets crosschecked downward into his neck 2 more times. Other team doesnt even get called a penalty. Pretty sure it was against Washington. Still pissed about it though considering hes retiring from injuries and theres no way that didnt cause longterm shit.

  9. With the Career video of Patric Hörnqvist, we need one on another Criminally Underrated Swedish former NHL Player a.k.a. Alexander Steen!!!

    Keep it ups Shannon 😎🔥

  10. something to note patty hornqvist: he had the cup CLINCHING goal against his former team in 2017 and since his departure pittsburgh has truly missed another player like him. he did so much for pit. never really truly replaced him.

  11. If he wasn't hurt for those 09-10 playoffs, those playoffs might've been a lot different. I think they could've took Chicago.

  12. Loved Hornqvist, at the time I was not sure about trading neal but boy what a move it ended up being. He was just such a likable and funny guy. I don't think there was a more deserving player on the team to get the cup clinching goal against nashville in their barn than for hornqvist to find the back of the net. Hell of a career, wish injuries had not been as big of a burden for him but loved him in Pittsburgh.

  13. And the fastest HT in Pens history! 72 changed the attitude of the Pens completely. They don't win Cups in 2016 or 2017 without him…

  14. If you counted him blocking the goalie from seeing the shot as an assist; he'd have a lot more points. Love the grit and determination. It is not easy staying in front of the net.

  15. As a Caps fan I hated Hornqvist (figuratively)..he was a huge thorn in the Caps side. But, I respected the man..would have loved him on my team.

  16. My favorite Hornqvist moment is when he threw the pads into his driveway to dry out.

  17. That goal in game 6 of the 2017 finals @ Nashville truly defines Hornqvist as a whole! He should be in the THG Hall of Fame

  18. Enjoy retirement Putte! What a warrior, what a champion. I’ll always regret that I never had the chance to watch him live 🙂 What a legend! Regards from Sollentuna.

  19. HORNQVIST is the type of player every team hopes, dreams, and wishes for.
A true diamond in the rough.
A tough, character guy, "over achiever", who is always there in the biggest of spots when you need someone to step up.
The sheer value of the last pick is absolutely insane, and again every GMs dream.
Great career. A true champion 🏆
    Happy trails 👣……….

  20. As a Preds fan, I still remember Trotz saying that he just couldn't keep Hornqvist off the team after the 09-10 training camp. He said something along the lines of "This guy just wouldn't go away." Very appropriate for Horny! I'm also a Pens fan, so I've enjoyed a lot of Hornquvist hockey in my days. Always a favorite. Always heart and soul. I'm quite glad I didn't really have to root against him much, as he was annoying as hell to play against!

  21. As a Pens fan I was very skeptical at trading away Neal for Hornqvist. Neal was such a great goal scorer. But as Mario Lemieux said at the time, the team needed grit and character. What the hell does that mean? It means Patric Hornqvist. He was a major contributor to the Pens Stanley Cups without a doubt.

  22. I remember being devistated when they traded Neal for him, years later I look back on that trade fondly, he was a CHAMPION, who worked his a*s off and got to win cups, Crosby used to think he was pretty intense until he met hornqvist, I hope the pens retire his number, he didn’t set the world on fire, but we wouldn’t have those two cups without hornqvist, absolut WARRIOR

  23. You forgot to mention the Stanley Cup winning goal just before the 3rd period ended in 2017 against the team who drafted him – Nashville

  24. Man put together a very respectable career in the NHL. Way more so than many first rounders do. Hell, way more so than many #1 picks do. Goes to show that draft position doesn't have to dictate how the rest of the story will play out.

Also Shannon you should do a video on like top 10 super late draft picks or something like that. Just players that were drafted very near the bottom but went on to have stellar careers.

  25. Shannon is the most consistent and dedicated YouTuber there is. The best hockey content on the internet

  26. Hörnqvist is such a treasure, hard worker and no nonsense on the ice but a really nice guy off the ice

  27. The type of player that every team needs, they do not get enough praise for their role. No cups without the Hornqvist type of players. GRIT.

  28. I remember jumping out of my seat to Hornqvist's goal against Nashville in the Stanley Cup Finals! Hornqvist even though he won't be one of the greats of all time will always hold a special place for me.

  29. Really reminds me of Tony Leswick from the Red Wings' Dynasty in the 50s, (I know I'm old at heart), Tony wasn't a glamorous scorer, but he put up solid totals and there in the big games and was an agitator that got under the skin of everyone he played. He also ended up scoring the Cup Winner in the last Game 7 Overtime to this date. Great work Pat, you had a helluva career.
