Vesey boarding on Irwin – Tough Call Review

Jimmy Vesey sees nothing but numbers and hits Matt Irwin anyway. There was no call on the play which isn’t unusual when a player sees the but coming. That’s a pretty dumb reason force a player to not play the puck.

  1. I don't completely disagree with you, but he could have turned in the direction he was passing the puck, which would have made it shoulder on shoulder and legal, and not given up possession or anything. I'm sure that's what Vesey was expecting. This is something defenders have been doing more of in the last few years where they don't turn, and "older" players like Vesey are probably still in their training days where you deliver this check every time. I'm okay with it not being called if it isn't excessively violent. This one wasn't. I think we'll see this hit happening less and less as the older folks retire, or the NHL steps up enforcement on it. It's definitely the definition of boarding, but you go back 3 or 5 years and the defender turns with his pass every time making it an eligible check. This is one of those gray areas right now, I think

  2. honestly, I don’t even see any reason to finish these kind of checks, it’s just lazy bum shit
