  1. Oilers are a good team the last two years they were eliminated in the playoffs by the team that would eventually win the cup. Hockey culture is a little different and contracts are too. With the salary cap its not as easy to just to wherever you want and hockey players i find are more loyal to their first rike and can be looked down on for jumping ship. Hockey players in general love to stay on one team and try to win it all with that team and McDavid is idolizing crosby in that way. Crosby has played with Pittsburgh his whole career and won 3 cups. McDavid wants to bring a cup to canada and to the oilers

  2. Each team has the same amount of money they are able to use to pay their players, so there’s not one club that can buy all the good players. It’s part of what makes the league so good because every team has the opportunity gave star players, and even if they don’t have a star player they can still be competitive

  3. Many players, like Crosby and Ovechkin have played their whole career for the same team; they, like McDavid were the #1 draft picks in their respective years, so they become the "franchise player" that the team is built around.

Edmonton has improved immensely since McDavid, and they've built a pretty solid team, but the last 2 years have lost in the playoffs to the eventual Stanley Cup winner.

Remember, the Stanley Cup is the hardest trophy in all pro team sports to win – 16 wins during the playoffs required. (Though not as much this year) many playoff games are won in OT (overtime) and frequently go to the 7th game of the series. The competition is fierce and often could go either way. It's possible that a team could play as many as 28 playoff games, if each round goes 7 games; it takes an immense physical toll and a lot of grit and determination to not only get to the playoffs but to win even 1 round, much less 4 rounds to take the Cup.

If you haven't already you might really like some of the comparison videos between Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin who came into the league the same year (due to Ovechkin having to wait a season as there was a strike in what would have been his premier season).

  4. Other teams can't afford him, or if they could, the Oilers want to keep him! And build the team around him. Neat to see an African man interested in Hockey! Once you get on the ice with skates and a stick, only then will you truly appreciate what the pros do!
