There’s some free-agency drama involving Vladimir Tarasenko. It was reported that he had agreed to sign with the Carolina Hurricanes. However, he changed his representation and is still on the open market as a result. His asking price might be cheap and the New Jersey Devils could sign him hypothetically. Speaking of which, Tom Fitzgerald still hasn’t conducted a press conference to discuss free agency. There are a couple of reasons why that might be the case.

Nope. Too much money for too little production and blocking youth from getting into the lineup.

First off, Happy Anniversary Trey🎉
Second, it is weird to me the Penguins ditched Marino but were so excited to get Graves. It feels like sellers remorse or something like they regret letting Marino go, so they had to grab his partner.
Third, I don't think the Devils will have trouble putting ego aside. The media loves to point at guys being moved to third line as a demotion but in NJ it's about depth not status, so if they buy into that we should be good. And I hope the chemistry works out I don't know the guys personally but they seem like they're easy to get along with.
And lastly, I love your take on why Fitzy didn't have a press conference if only every boss was like that.

I don't see him coming to the Devils and I'm ok with that. My first hope is that he does NOT sign with the Rangers, and my second hope he DOESN'T sign within the Metro division.
I think they are still working at somehting, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's a defender and maybe Samsonov. Tarasenko is not out of the question but I don't see a reason to add an offensivetop 6 forward when we kinda already have that, and I would rather have some cap flexibility then Tarasenko for a lengthy deal, which is probably what he wants (although now he probably takes 1 year, I dunno).

We got a good sniper in toffoli, we don't need senko. They need some more grit especially after losing Miles wood. No need for another offensive player to team that doesn't need offensive help. We need to figure what happens when everyone realizes that nemec isn't close to ready. He's gonna need a lot of time I fear. I do not want brenda smith playing every day.
Plus they need the cap space. They basically had no draft this year and they have good players in the pipeline that can get a shot.
Emphatic no on signing him. Does he play goalie or defense? No. Do we already have a loaded top 6/9? Yes. Did he want to come to NJ when we tried to trade for him a few years back? No. I don't want this guy in the locker room, and don't want him on the cap.

I think the Devils are fine to enter the season, Holtz on a line with Palat is a good deal, they had some chemistry ladt pre-season (with Jack) and then were never put together again. Save the cap-space for the trade deadline. If Lindy can do get the same results as last year without Brunette, then we can add a big piece for a cup run….again, provided we get there.
