I agree middle of the pack and we'll be fine
To me this year any Sabre fan that isn’t excited for this year is just negative sure I would like a few more things but I haven’t been this excited since the summer of 06. I do want dahlin signed Ik he’s gonna sign I just want it off our backs so we really know the money we have to build around
Wayne, after watching some of this year's playoffs, I'm worried that we can raise our level of hitting enough to compete in playoffs. Of course, if it's baked into our plan, it should be no problem. Watching Sabres last year I noticed we wouldn't sometimes even reach out and touch someone on for forechecking. You skate up to mostly a defenseman and he passes the puck and you are within 6 feet, give him a little two-handed push as your turn to get back in your defensive area. If the players are on their own and are not hitting, are our players playing just fast and free in Junior's, I don't know. I made this comment before. While playing no-check hockey, we would make more contact made to look accidental because the refs would call that.
Its not so much the hitting, but it can flip the tide in close games… Like you said during the year, often the top hitting team is losing.. they use hitting to try to knock you off your game.. we need to do that more too.. but we don’t have to do it like the 70’s Flyers either…
Guys like Olofsson, 16 hits all year, and Peterka, 18 hits all year, could/should learn to be a bit more physical.
We Need a Mean Goalie Like Billy Smith 😂 Seriously, i just hope we are not dead last again. How can you not play physical Hockey ? It’s a physical game !!!! This is why loosing Peca Really Hurt. He would of been ideal on the coaching staff.
I’ve also felt that Granato is developing the team in phases. I believe that if Granato refuses to evolve with defensive and physical play, Erik Johnson will call out his coaching philosophy. This alone makes Johnson a massive value to the team. It’s clear as day that what the Avs did worked and we have to adopt what they did to some extent.
Let’s also tip our hats to the fact that Johnson stayed with the Avs for TWELVE years until they finally won a cup. As a first overall pick he didn’t whine and complain and demand a trade when things went south. That loyalty is rare and that’s a true champion.
We traded for Greenway the coaches Son and are paying him 3 million dollars to be mean and hit people, but he thinks he’s Taylor Hall the soft, weak bunny fur player. Jack Quinn had some huge hits last year and he’s have the size of Greenthumb
The team will have lots of hits this year, Stillman, Clifton, Dahlin, Samuelson, Erik Johnson. All the coach needs to do is tell the forwards to play mean. Greenway gets awarded 1-2 hits a game but I’ve never actually seen him hit or push anyone, he must have a friend at the league. Cozens, Tuch can hit when they want to, in Vegas Tuch hit a lot, I’m not worried at all, once playoffs start almost all players hit unless your name is Reinhart, Hall, etc
I like the addition of Vinny Prospal as a coach for the Amerks, the guy could throw a few haymakers in his day and play a physical game.
Wayne as I recall Tyler Myers was 6-8, and soft as blue cheese.
If we don't get some different players it is going to be disappointing….😮 Tyler and Greenway are both tall…,
Hopefully Adams and Granato told Greenway to watch tapes of Patrick Maroon & Matt Martin this summer because thats how they want him to play this season!

Sabres fans need to accept the likelihood of players plateauing after last year's
career seasons (Tage) and, brace your selves, other teams with better prospects like NJ, Minnesota,etc.keeping pace if not exceeding us.
The addition of Eric Johnson may be the BEST or the WORST thing to happen to Meatballs.
EJ has won a Cup on a team that had been dogpoop not long before. Sounds familiar….?
He might look at Don in the room and privately tell him to go get the players we need to do what winning teams do, and we aren't doing. Like….

Block shots at league average…
Hits , the same.
Faceoffs…..same.
Final Four teams are way better than the also rans at the above, and we're nowhere near the middle.
Minus notable upgrades in the above…we are 50/50 to make it to the playoffs 😢
I absolutely do not see them being even remotely physical because that’s not the game or roster that Adams and Granato are building here. It does down to Rochester even where Appert preaches against hitting, that’s not by chance because he’s in the same page as Adams and Granato and they are all against playing physical hockey. So for those people dreaming of this team being physical just wake up because it’s not happening. They’ve all gone on record publicly saying exactly what they are doing here and physical play isn’t what they want.
Hey wayne… Here’s a thought… a trade with the Islanders… we get Semyon Varlomov G and maybe some other pieces for UPL and some pieces.. would give us that goalie we’re looking for and I like him… They are also bumping the cap and maybe through a shrewed Adams deal.. we could help them there…
