  1. Well he's a Newfie so maybe he'll like playing in Montreal if he's closer to his family and firends, if he's that kind of guy

  2. I hope they get a good young goalie prospect. That’s something that’s been overlooked

  3. I hope this trade does not end up like lighting trade for tanner guy from Nashville it’s really high

  4. I think the trade makes a lot of sense for both teams and Newhook has the opportunity to develop nicely in MTL. But as a CO fan, I’m certainly happy with the return. I’m not sure we could get close enough to the contract figure he probably has earned given the cap situation, and it gives us the chance to re-sign Toews next summer when he’s due a raise. Win / win? Probably

  5. imo this confirms that montreal is going to draft a winger (michkov or benson)

  6. Google the last 10 thirty first overall picks. Show me what Montreal was probably missing out on. MTL get a recent mid-1st pick in Newhook for a bag of magic beans… I love it.

  7. 1st and 2nd round picks is not nothing for a return. This is not a steal by any stretch of the imagination. He's young and seviceable and they paid accordingly.

  8. Appreciate your positivity. I have to agree. We have plenty of prospects right now, and I love draft suspense as much as the next guy. Apart from the sting of who would we pick, Newhook has those intangibles you're looking for as an add to the young core. I'd love to see a team with a top 9 that's developed together. I also really wouldn't sleep on Newhook playing as a winger for the Habs

  9. As an Avs fan, I'm very sad to see Newhook gone. I watched him score what is probably the best goal of his career (so far) right in front of me in Ottawa back in 2021-22 and I've been sold on him ever since. I personally though he would take a huge step forward this year with the expanded role but unfortunately it didn't happen. He shows flashes of greatness though and I think he's got elite 2C upside, can also slot in at the wing. Excited to see what he does in Mtl with more room to develop and all the young talent they have there.

  10. I’m getting so tired of hearing ‘young, developing’ player. More the half the time these young, developing players are either a bust or turn out developed on another team.

  11. Anyone claiming the Avs fleeced the Habs probably haven’t looked at the odds of a draft pick making it to the NHL. In the past 20 years, maybe 20-30% of players in the 30-40 pick range make an impact in the league. Essentially, Avs get 2 attempts at landing 1 meaningful player. It’s a good trade for both sides. Habs get an NHL player that fits their core. Avs clear a roster spot for a player that they can add elsewhere seeing as they have Johansen to fill the role Newhook was being groomed to be. They just couldn’t wait another year or two to see if he would get there considering they are in a Cup window.

  12. Interesting … I was expecting a little (a LOT) more from Newhook in Col last season… Instead, he looked lost much of the season, whatever experience he was gaining. I hope for him better things in Montreal.

  13. Shane Pinto had more goals as a rookie than Newhook has ever had in a season. Newhook is a decent pickup, but habs fans need to pump the brakes a little. Many are saying Newhook will be an elite 3C, but his play hasn't come close to being elite. They said the same with Romanov, and where is he now?

  14. Oh, the Habs are doing everything right, aren't they? This is becoming a very promissing team. I hope Ottawa can start battling for the Stanley Cup before the Canadiens get a lot better…

  15. Colorado lineup does not look good or deep in my opinion without lande. Lehk playing 1st line and Valeri the only second line guy worth a damn. They basically have a 1-2 punch like Carolina with svech and aho and a really good D core. Since kadri left they really have lost all the depth. Crazy if they could resign kadri like now with lande on LTIR they prolly could have kept him and paid him

  16. yes the Habs just got an undersized forward, got to be the smallest team in the show, they probably want to trade for Yamamoto

  17. Canadiens definitely didn't get bigger. You should cool it just a little. What happens if Newhook has topped out? Sakic doesn't get fleeced? Be careful.

  18. Newhook is nothing like you say he is, lol. "Super Nice", riiiight.

  19. Looking more and more like the Montreal Canadians are gonna be the first team from Canada to win the cup since the Montreal Canadians

  20. Colorado – > COL #18 Alex Newhook to MTL < MTL #36 Gianni Fairbrother + 31rst pick Mikhail Gurianev and MTL pick #37 > COL -> TBL Ethan Gauthier < Ross Colton.

  21. As an oilers fan, I’m encouraged by the fact that the avalanche roster has five names I don’t recognise. Not a guarantee that they’ll be weak for that, but all things being equal, not a bad indication…
