  1. To add some context: Yzerman just had a press conference after this video came out

    1. Zadina asked to be move to another team
    2. Yzerman tried but couldn't make it happen, therefore waivers so Zadina can have another opportunity elsewhere (potentially)
    3. If he clears there is still a future in Detroit
    4. Yzerman still likes him as a player, saw growth in his limited time this season, wants his development to continue in Detroit

  2. I think he made the big club too soon and his development was botched. Blashill didn’t have the best track record with the young guys

  3. Unfortunately for Zadina I don't think his contract is worth picking up for something largely viewed as a longshot. He's got a better chance going to another team through waiver rather than a trade, but I'd say its still unlikely. He had flashes of improvement this season, but nothing as clear cut as Rasmussen's "redemption". He has to prove he can contribute more at the NHL level if he wants teams to look at him, but if he improves by that much Stevie will probably still work with him if he'd open to it and I kinda think if he's able to break that scoring barrier in Detroit he'll also want to stay himself.

  4. Nobody will claim him, he'll be in camp next year as a depth forward.

  5. Hmm, this must be due to Nylander not being extended or traded. And with a similar degree of relevance, (as Burke never says) keep up the good work Elliotte.

  6. Sad conclusion. But unavoidable. His PPG declined three straight years. Perhaps he can have a Dan Cleary kind of career with another team.

  7. holland failed on his scouting team before the 2018 draft ! 🤔🤷‍♂️👍if he does go down to g r he might learn the defense first system maybe?! 👍

  8. It could be that someone is interested in Zadina, but figure on sending him down to the AHL– in which case they would want him to already have cleared waivers before they give up any kind of asset for him. If I understand the cap rules properly (and, given that trying to understand the Cap rules gave scientists at CERN a nervous breakdown, I probably don't) all but about 750,000 of Zadina's contract is "burriable" in the AHL. So if someone picks up Zadina in a trade, I think in terms of cap space they are only risking a league min salary.

  9. Yes, he'll be bought out during the next buy-out period. His contract is too expensive to be claimed.

  10. With Quinn Hughes still on the board.Ken Holland takes Filip Zadina. Holland was wrong then just as he was so often over his last few years in Detroit. Don't forget. he was the guy who kept Johann Franzen and traded Marian Hossa..
