Back when Phaneuf and Giordano were on the flames they were in town to play Vancouver. There was a little shoe store on Robson Street between Granville and the art gallery.
I was trying to look at shoes and this big lurch of a neanderthal was in the way and kept saying “what do u think about these for my girl”. Finally I said excuse me and he was like “I’m shopping here” and I realized who it was.
I’ll be honest. That expression to me is much more “help me” than anything

Hated when he left Columbus the first time ,was so stoked when he came back. Hate, hate, hate that he might be done playing .Fucking hate that concussions have ended so many of my favorite players careers.
i met Dominik Hasek once and i was basically rebuffed. I was about 14 or so, coming out of the locker room after a late hockey game and my parents were waiting in the main hall for me. The rink was pretty much empty at this point. i was the last one out of the room as usual. they pointed to a tall skinny man standing alone near the entrance, looking at the wall decor and said do you know who that is? my jaw dropped, i knew exactly who that was. it was The Dominator! i wanted his autograph on my goalie stick more than anything but i couldnt possibly ask him! my family encouraged me to just go say hi and introduce myself. after much deliberation i worked up the courage, walked over to him and said Hi! My name is _____. I play hockey here. He said ‘Hello’. Not having planned anything beyond that, i paused and said ‘…can i have your autograph?….’ his response was ‘No, not today. I’m here with my son.’ and turned away from me.
i had never been crushed by someone i idolized before and boy did i feel it. the slow walk back to my family was just demoralizing. i wanted to leave after that and never come back to that rink.
Voracek is awesome. I remember him calling out hfboards posters back in the day.

Met Patrick Roy a few times.
Last time was when I was living in Colorado. We were walking into the rink for my game. Roy was outside the rink absolutely ripping his kid a new one for playing a bad game. But in French. And it was a alot of Tabarnaks and calis’s.
Now, my dad was the coach of my team, and tried to pick as many Canadian kids as he could (dad was military, and we were posted down there for a bit). One of the other kids moms says “Monsieur Roy, all these kids here can understand what you are saying”.
He turned red, came over, half heartedly apologized, and signed some stuff for us. I handed him my gloves, which made my dad have to run to the store to buy me a new pair before the game.

I used to deliver mail to a condominium where some flyers players lived. Ryan white once held the door for me, Brandon manning asked me how to change his address, and Scott Laughton once gave me a death stare as he walked by me but he just always looks like that.
