Klim definitely makes sense as a project type of prospect just given his pre-draft experience wasn’t as polished (the Belarusian Extraleague isn’t the greatest for strength of competition). Nevertheless, the main thing I like about Klim is that he has steadily improved since coming into the AHL as an 18 year old.
It’s important to emphasize patience with Klimovich, but I think he’s taking all the right strides. With how much the new management group has prioritized player development at the AHL level, things are still promising for Klim. One more big year in the AHL and he could very well be knocking at the door for a late season callup or battling for a roster spot in September 2024.
I refuse to believe we have 5 prospects better than Klimovich. He has a tremendous work ethic. And he is the full package. Size, Skating, Shot and Playmaking. His 2-way game is developing really well too. He played 4th line minutes, with limited powerplay time, and still almost had 20 goals. And that is at 19 years old, coming over from a beer league. This kid is special. He is very coachable, and has a lot of raw skill. You let him marinate another season in the AHL, and then put him on a line with Pettersson and Kuzmenko, and watch him put up rookie Boeser numbers. He will be a legitimate threat on the left half-wall on the powerplay. It will also open up Pettersson one-timer as they will have to respect both shots. And with his speed, he will be extremely dynamic on the rush. If he hits the net, 1v1 with the goalie, he rarely misses.

Well one thing I have to say is I love how we are getting depth in our system. Imagine if we had two more top tier prospects in the top 45 of this draft
