Both things are true – we need to play the kids more, and the kids need to come to play. Kakko and Chytil have shown what their game is, and with the right line mates/chemistry they are top 6 caliber on a contender.
Laf on the other hand hasn’t shown up. You can talk minutes all you want but when a forward “has it” you can tell every time they touch the puck. Independent of line or minutes. Kakko shows it with puck protection. Chytil shows it with silky hands and speed. Laf hasn’t shown much more than an ability to score some greasy goals.
People talk about the devils as if Hughes wasn’t their best player by the end of year 2. It’s not an opportunity thing, it’s talent and work ethic. Every time the puck touches his stick he creates something. Laf usually just gets knocked off/dumps it in bc of his lack of speed. If Hughes were on our team he long ago would have commanded more minutes because he is that good.
So yes, let’s play the kids more. Definitely don’t punish them for mistakes here and there. But they also need to step the fuck up and show why they were supposed to be stars. This is the year laffy…take over a damn game like Hughes does every night.
