To me, giving Edvinsson 3, one of a few single digits left in circulation, felt like a message that the team believes he’s going to be a darn good player for us. I get Holl has seniority, but it’s going to look weird if Edvinsson has to go the Jiri Fischer route of 2-8-2 (neglecting his 54 time to start).
EDIT: I will say if this is the beginning of Edvinsson making 77 his own, I’d be cool with that. It’s a sweet number and I think he could really make that his own. Maybe Coffey can rub off on him that way.

I don’t know, McIsaac is #3 in GR so Edvinsson has been #77. I’d guess Edvinsson wears 77 now in Detroit. I’m pretty okay with that.

I don’t think I can believe in the Yzerplan anymore since they gave Holl #3. They pretty much just traded away Simon Edvinsson and gave up on all of his potential. What an enraging time to be a Detroit fan. Maybe it’s time to be a Chicago fan since they were able to sign Jeffrey Bedard while the wings don’t seem to even want to try for a top 3 pick. What is Yzerman even doing?

The general reaction to this is funny. I don’t care and I doubt the players care much either.
“Edvinsson’s number” dude wore it for 9 regular season games and wore a different number in every other league he played in.
