  1. A good discussion. Meanwhile, we brought back a guy who's too slow and can't hit anyone to be our captain.

  2. Yes, Wayne, hitting matters. I'm surprised you made this video. I know you've talked about hitting many times. Yes, with the new defencemen, we should hit more as a total. But, I think it's on forechecking that you make your mark hitting. You want just enough hitting on forechecking to make the defense not know what's coming. And like you said you can not just turn on hitting for the playoffs.

  3. Yeahā€¦ Iā€™d love a Scott Stevensā€¦ many hated him.. but most of his nastiest hits were perfectly legal.. Sadly, there are not many around.. Tom Wilson as you said earlier would be really nice.

  4. I 100% agree with Brett. This is not 90s NHL, in 90s yes you needed a fighter. But now just a look earlier this month the #1 overall pick was an under 6 foot scorer. You need to keep pace with teans in hitting, but not so m7ch season wise (unless the other team is lighting you up) but moreso the playoff. Wayne, you and I know come post season it is 100% needed in the long game. Great video and great comment.

  5. I've heard the Sabres do have a guy who chirps the other team and gets them annoyed… who is it, Cozens maybe? I know the subject is hitting but you also mentioned getting into the heads of the opponents.

  6. You know who I liked and was underrated and here for the tank years Steve ott he was a pain in the ass to opposing teams hit hard good 3rd line player

  7. I for this reason believe the loss of Michael Peca is going to hurt. He could have taught these guys how to hit in a timely and telling way.

  8. Coming out of the lockout with Briere and Drury and the bunch, we came out and skated around everyone. The Sabres came out of nowhere with blazing speed that other teams werenā€™t prepared for and couldnā€™t handle. Thatā€™s what this past season reminded me of. If we can continue to progress in that same direction, we donā€™t need to be a huge hitting team.

  9. I was in my car on the I-290 heading home from one of my hockey games, listening to the game when Campbell opened up a Can of Soup on Umberger! I couldnā€™t get home fast enough to watch the replay during intermission!

  10. When we traded for Greenway the coach and GM said other teams took liberties with our guys and we didnā€™t have a player like Greenway who can protect teammates and play tough.

ā€œTalented power forward at a great age with experience,ā€ Adams said. ā€œā€¦ As I watched him very closely over the last number of weeks, I just think we have a player here that we donā€™t have currently. A player that adds physicality, grit, is a presence. He can hold onto pucks. Heā€™s talented where he can make plays and get up and down the ice, but also that frame and his ability to hang onto pucks and just have a physical presence.ā€

ā€œWhat I noticed wasnā€™t that we were getting pushed around, but that teams were certainly trying to bully us,ā€ Adams said. ā€œI donā€™t think thereā€™s any way around it when you watch our games, a number of the teams, especially going after our top players and just game after game targeting them. It was clear.

ā€œNow, I think what our guys did was fantastic in terms of standing up for themselves, for each other, competing, not backing down, not giving up, one inch. I didnā€™t see that at all, which is a great sign.ā€

Adams said when Greenwayā€™s on the ice, ā€œeveryoneā€™s aware.ā€

ā€œHe can skate and he can make plays, but heā€™s got the presence physically that people are aware when heā€™s on the ice,ā€ he said. ā€œNow, what weā€™re building towards ā€¦ is setting this franchise up for sustainable success. And ultimately, when we get in the playoffs, whether thatā€™s this year, or in the coming years, a player like that, especially in a playoff series where you know, game in and game out, they become valuable.ā€

  11. Watching Vegas and how they methodically won nearly all battles in each critical area was quite impressive. They were a good sized team and with few exceptions they all hit. That wears teams down for sure. 82 games of that …? No ofcourse not, but they have to show that they CAN play any style of game when needed. They must demonstrate that they can play any style to WIN

  12. Pick a pack of Peca's Pickles! Who could forget his commercials šŸ˜….
I want Kolesar Wayne. Nobody could handle Gudas and Tkachuk in the entire East…Until Kolesar planted Gudas and Tkachuk , then FLA had no answers

  13. play big and the game will come to you, play small and the puck will always seem out of reach.

  14. Hopefully Granato will tell Greenway to HIT more this year and you know Clifton and Johnson will be physical ! .
Greenway will most likely be on the fourth line with Krebs next season after Girgenson and Okposso are gone/ retired so he can be our Matt Martin / Patrick Maroon!
Yes i remember Campbells BEAUTIFUL Hit , its up there Dahlins hit against San jose last season .
    Thanks for the video Wayne!

  15. Clifton had more hits then out entire team last season so, i think it will go up, and hopefully it bleeds over to the rest of them.
