  1. I think spurg is highly underrated and has his best years in front of him. Great sign, even at 7 years -hes an undersized guy that avoids a lot of damage. I'm 100% behind this

  2. This is a comparable to a potential Pietrangelo extension. Similar age and players, but Pietrangelo will be asking for more money.

  3. That contract is going to look very ugly near its end. Those final 2-3 years are going to be rough. Dude is going to be 30 when that contract kicks in.

  4. Not sure why Minnesota likes keeping guys around under contract until their mid to late 30’s. In a league that’s getting younger, they keep holding onto guys. A 4-5 year term would have been more appropriate

  5. I like the contract; it's nice that spurgeon will be in his mid thirties at the end of it as opposed to his late thirties. Spurgeon is a good defenseman.

  6. He's a player you need to watch day in and day out to see how awesome he is. He just doesn't make mistakes, and plays a really smart game. He can gain position on a player and then possession of the puck, and he makes it look relatively easy despite only being 5' 9".
On top of that, he's as humble and classy as they come on and off the ice.

  7. 7 million a year for getting 14 goals last year lmao?? Another crappy contract for the wild. Maybe 6 million max

  8. More than Morrissey, less than Trouba but Spurgeon is on the wrong side of 20. I agree that playing for the Wild he doesn’t get as much recognition as he deserves but if Wild become a tanking team I can see him in the Seabrook territory where everyone in the management and media will look for ways to move the contract yet it’s unmovable. Great player but so was Seabrook.

  9. 46 is one of the best D in the NHL. You have no idea how good he is unless you see him play every game. This is a GREAT signing!

  10. It’s a little steep. He’s more in the gardiner, morresy price range. But Myers is shit and he got paid

  11. Spurgeon is straight up the best defenseman on their team, and that's despite the fact that Suter is still playing at a high level, and Dumba is most likely going to contend for the most goals by a defenceman this year. Dude is the DEFINITION of clutch, and never makes mistakes. He is one of the smallest players in the league, and he will rub 200+lb forwards off the puck in the corner seemingly with ease. And he pretty much never makes a mistake with the puck or in his gap control, is a smooth, fast skater. His only downside is that he doesn't have a great shot, but he has a crafty eye that can make up for it. I have been championing Spurgeon as one of the best defenseman in the league for YEARS.

  12. Good player, but overpay and over term just like Zucarello, Wild will be getting older than they already are fast, don’t understand their direction, I guess they think they’re contenders ?

  13. Rallying around the idea of not getting a chance is exactly what the twins did, and they’re atop of the division looking to go to the WS.

Now I doubt that happens with the wild but don’t be surprised if we make another 1st round exit after barely making it in

  14. I just came across your April video Referee Press Conference. Absolutely brilliant! I almost died laughing! Great sense of humour while getting your point across brilliantly. On topic, I think Spurgeon is quite possibly the most under-rated defenseman in the league. Your channel has invigorated my love of the game! (And I'm 62). Started watching you while teaching in South Korea. Keep up the great work! Authentic and knowledgeable! Love it!

  15. I'm curious… are ntc's part of most contracts now, or did the last expansion draft reduce the number of no trade clauses in contracts?

  16. Spurgeon is the most awesome hockey player and has beautiful wife and kids. He is just awesome dude as a hockey player and a human and I am happy for him and his family . As far as his game, if he were in Toronto or big markets he would be a star.

  17. Did you guys forget he had 12 goals in Covid shortened season (62 games) and he is a defenseman.
