I feel like Pettersson will take a wait and see approach. If the team gets off to a good start and makes the playoffs, he will stay long-term. If Vancouver gets off to another bad start and it looks like they are missing the playoffs again, I think there will be some concerns about his long-term future in Vancouver.

At this point if there is any hold up it has to be because Petey’s camp is asking for more than 10M AAV. Because if you’re Allvin, there’s simply no way you don’t jump up and sign on the spot if he’s asking for 10M. The question is basically “Will you give Petey 11M or 11.5M if that’s what he is asking for?”

A big part of me wants Petey to be free of this mess and go win cups – I’ll be happy if he does. I do hope he signs here and Aquilini should pay him the $11m and not nickel and dime the $750k. I think that if Petey signs 8 years it will speak volumes about the locker room’s support of what Rutherford et al are doing and be an encouraging sign for fans.

If it’s between 9.5 and 10.25 like Gear says, I’ll be so happy

Petey has so much leverage now. He’s coming off 100+ points, Selke nominations and he has a good chance of being the Captain. There’s no rush for him at all. I hope he stays loyal and signs a long term deal soon though. Our immediate success is defined by whether he’s still on our team.

Yep. I’m having a feeling we’re fucked on this one. Either Elias takes us to the bank and loses his passion, or Alvin plays hardball and he motherfuckin walks. Man if Alvin fucks this up. Not to mention how Hughes fits into all this.
