Steve Yzerman’s Cap Management Could Set Detroit up for Long Term Success

The Detroit Red Wings signed a lot of new faces the last two offseasons, but despite that they still have nearly $9M in space remaining, with a projects $30M again next offseason. Yzerman’s refusal to sign longterm deals will give the Red Wings room to manuever in the future. #lgrw

  1. Seider $8.6 x 8 Raymond 2 year bridge @ around $4.8 . dont wanna see there contracts coming up at the same time

  2. If im not mistaken…ya guys were hyped last year off season…talking playoffs…and yet another bottom 10 finish….hows this year different?

  3. The patince Yzweman is showing in this build is remarkable. It's like a chess game for him, planning 3 or 4 moves ahead., preparing for success but planning for some failure. Every time a guy like Kasper makes the team, Stevie has a surplus asset to trade.

  4. Makes zero sense why Stevie wouldn’t want Seider on an 8 yr deal. If he doesn’t sign for 8, it’ll be because he’d rather have a bridge deal and gamble.

Raymond on the other hand isn’t on that same level. Raymond and Berggren are good, small skilled wingers. Basically the 2020’s version of Nyquist and Tatar. They are replaceable.
    Seider is a mainstay.

  5. All the best deals in the league are Betting on younger players and locking them in to long term deals. I’d rather have Seider locked up long term even if you have to pay him close to 19 million now because4 5 years from now who knows how much he will cost.

  6. Jason Robertson signed a short term deal because the Stars and him couldnt agree on a long term one and they didnt want him to make it to UFA. We've seen how hard it is to find a good RHD in FA and how expensive they are, when you currently have one of the top ones in the NHL why would you not sign him long term?

  7. Bad take to say Fabbri is worth his 4mil contract, the dude has never played a fully healthy season and I doubt this is this the year he does it

  8. I'm on board with giving Raymond a 4 year deal but I'd love to see seider get a 8 year deal his work ethic, his character and skill and drive to improve are all there he doesn't seem like the type of person that would stop trying once he got the bag

  9. My Seider ceiling? Larry Robinson. His floor? A damn good player for a decade, the best defenseman on the team for the duration of his career.

  10. Moritz Seider has Claude Percy Lemieux as his agent. When it comes to the length of MO's next contract, it will be a shorter contract for two reasons.
    1. There will be more money in the league when the cap goes up.
    2. Mo would be stupid (which he really isn't) if he signs an 8x deal now, as such a contract only plays into the owner's hands as we already know the cap will go up soon.

Here, MO's agent Lemieux will assist MO in all important decisions that Mo ultimately needs to make for his career, both short-term and long-term.

  11. Do you sign Seider to a 2 year deal and then lock him up until he's 32 or do you just sign the 8 year deal now and only lock him up until he's 30? I would think the goal is to keep control of him as long as possible.

  12. 8 years = $69.5M
    AAV = $8.687M
    Year 1 = $7M
    Year 2 = $7.5
    Year 3 = $8M
    Year 4 = $8.5M
    Year 5 = $9M
    Year 6 = $9.5M
    Years 7-8 = $10M per year

  13. Razor and Berggers have the bridge deal floor based on Zadina’s deal. Their agents know that both players are delivering more production than Z did so those bridge deals will be bigger.
