In this video, we go back and break down the greatest debut in NHL history. On October 12th, 2016, The Toronto Maple Leafs squared off with the Ottawa Senators in the Battle of Ontario. In that game, a rookie named Auston Matthews would completely shock the hockey world.

Is thia the creep who harasses women in parking lots in the middle of the night?
Then lies about not doing it despite being caught on camera? Then cries to have daddy bail him out of the jam like some sort of deabeat fratboy?
Idk why but I felt like the Matthew's debut put extreme pressure on any upcoming generational talents, looking at you Connor Bedard!
Matthews debut was absolutely ridiculous. Just ice running through his veins in his first game as a teenager lmao
doesnt even make sense
However, lets get real here, he`s not a playoff player.
Little did anyone know that's as good as he'd get
The cup just like women security guards will thankfully be forever out of his reach
matthews will never get a cup 😂 that stache aint gonna do it!!
This guy gets way too much hype. Thank you for the click bait now ill make sure i never see an ad from you again.
Bedard shatters this record with a 9 goal triple hat trick opener
I thought the Leafs would win; or really, be close to the Cup. Gift of youth, draft, & skill. He still may get 1-2 with the Leafs. But, I dunno how he'd adapt to guarding the net.
Main reason I think he's leaving Toronto if they don't do something. First they let his feed man walk, Hyman, then they take his 2nd feed man, Marner and put him on the 2nd line with Tavares.
Never forget it …I seen the first 2goals had to go in for midnights and was surprised to hear on the radio he got 4
…as soon as I got home I had to see it
bro got the be a pro debut
Nearly 6 years after this moment it might be the end of Toronto window
We realized what a absolute leader and gamer 34 was for admitting he missed his back check on the winner. Super mature guy.
back when i was a leafs fan. God i hate those guys now!
If only you could bottle the determination certain guys have in moments like these. The energy boost some guys get when in their debut or the last minute of the third
Then he started carrying purses and went to the beibs training school and went from 60 goals to 40
This is Bourque calling Corson, come in Corson
Play that game 10,000 times, and he scores 4 goals in it, once. It's a fluke. Hardly any indicator of a bar to be set.
That being said, it's still perfectly valid, and counts. Matthews has not lived up to his grotesque contract, especially in the playoffs. This team is dabbling with the idea of paying him even more.
I look forward to another 20+ years of Toronto losing in the playoffs. They just never learn.
I remember watching Darrell Sitler score 10 points in a game. Austin Matthews scoring four goals was just as exciting.
“Spoiler Alert: The Leafs future has not been bright.” Lololol
Matthews is obviously one of the best goal scorers in the NHL… but it’s a bit weird that his best goal highlight comes from his first game ever…
