  1. What makes anyone think that last year was the exception and not the rule when it comes to karlsson? He's had one great season in the last four or five.

  2. Excellent take – as always – DK! Being patient makes sense. Why hurry it? Only two teams are in the mix and the Sharks really need to move on from this contract. People are more excited about waiting for Karlsson than for Jesus! 🙂

  3. Dubas will probably have to give up at least one 1st round pick to get this done, especially if Granlund's dead weight dump is part of the deal.

  4. God awful take. The most ridiculous trade scenario in the world. San Jose even taking Petry is a stretch unless there’s at least a top prospect and a couple 1st and /or 2nd round picks involved to make it worth their while to take our over-priced and 35-year-old defenseman (2 years older than Karlsson), who’s had a less than stellar season and is on the downside of his career. Surprised you didn’t mention the one-off Tampa game again. You know Kapanen had a hatty this season with the Pens? What does that mean? Yup, nothing. Add to that you devalue the trade even further by trying to lump in Granlund? Hey, let’s see if we can get them to take Carter too if he would agree to going to the Sharks. 3 players for one. That’s a good deal! lol The point is: Karlsson is a desirable asset, and the biggest name and trade piece of this off-season, for good reason. Petry isn’t and neither is Granlund. No one anywhere is clamoring for those guys to come to their team, and that includes GM's.

There’s obviously a reason you don’t participate in trade speculation often, because you are clearly awful at it. You start off saying the Sharks are rebuilding and acquiring assets, and then ignore that completely by suggesting they’ll be interested at all in Petry and Granlund? And all the while people think the Sharks would/should retain a huge chunk of Karlsson’s salary on top of things? I said it before and I’ll stand by it, the only way the Sharks make a deal with the Pens for Karlsson is if the Penguins send them Pettersson, along with at least a 1st and 2nd round pick, and a prospect. That’s’ what Karlsson is worth and the Sharks have no real reason to take less just because Karlsson wants a trade. At that point, they might be able to get SJ to retain about 20% of Karlsson’s salary in the deal. Granlund isn’t going to SJ. And neither is Petry unless they really sweeten the deal with another prospect and even more picks. If the Pens aren't willing to ante up, then this trade is dead in the water.

To clear the cap space needed to take on even a reduced Karlsson salary, the Pens will have to get another team involved with either Petry, but especially Granlund. Who quite honestly, I don’t think is going anywhere. If thes Pens aren't offerning anything near worthwhiel to the Pens, all the parience in the world isn't going to get this done. SJ will sit on him for another season if need be before making their team worse just to get something done. BTW: Karlsson had 101 points, not 102. At least get that part straight if you’re going to repeat it over and over. 101, 102, doesn’t matter? Probably not, but I bet Pirates fans for some odd reason will think 99 is a whole lot different than 100 loses this season.

  5. That would be a great deal for the Pens but a horrible one for the Sharks..maybe if the Sharks had Hextall at the healm they would go for something like that. Besides, I thought an emphasis was to be about improving the Pens defense? ..as in playing defense.
