They Need a Star..

OK Guys, its time to talk about how long its been.. Since the Montreal Canadiens have had a player on their roster who could put up 100 points in a single season. Or even a 50 goal scorer. It’s been far too long. I would personally love to see the Habs add a player of this calibre to their lineup, preferably via the draft one day. So this video is basically about wishful thinking.

The articles that were in the video were screenshots from Habsfanatics.com, I highly reccommend you to check out this site for further Habs News,

Let me know whatcha think of this one down in the comment section!

  1. There is a decade of misery ahead of this franchise, they might get lucky in the draft. Fingers crossed!

  2. It all depends on the cost vs value for a player like that personally I prefer 2 lines that can score with guys getting 20 plus goals etc basically a well balanced team that gets some good point production from the defence.

  3. The topic of this video is exactly what I was thinking leading into the draft. That's why I wanted Michkov.

The 1st year I followed the team was 88-89. I've never seen a Habs player score 100 points. I think the closest was Damphousse.

  4. I think it’s a stars vs depth debate. From everything I’ve gathered Hughes and Gorton want a deep team not a team based on over paying a star or two hoping they can outplay the depth of the other team.

Jack Eichel was the Vegas star at 66 points, same as Suzuki. So is Eichel a star?

  5. THEY ARE PAYING A COUPLE OF PLAYERS SUPERSTAR MONEY!!….IF THEIR 4TH LINE CAN PLAY AND SCORE 30-35 GOALS BETWEEN THEM ….ROLL 4 AND THEIR DEFENSE CAN PRODUCE OFFENCE AND SOMEONE CAN FIGURE OUT THE POWER PLAY THEN THEY DON'T NEED THE PERSON YOURE DREAMING OF…

  6. Lets see Slafkovski in the future maybe he can pair up with Caufield-Suzuki, i think Newhook can be the partner for Dach.

  7. I agree with everything stated in this video…everything.
Nick and Cole cannot do it as is they need a star third otherwise they will be on for more goals against than they produce.
The best way to get a star was via the draft you get your cheap ELC deal and protection for many years.Free agents is NOT how you do it because those contracts are MUCH more expensive and you cannot protect those players unless your willing to over pay them.
Yep there is time like 3 years before we can legitimately ask for a playoff team and start to contend.

  8. I'm not so sure they need a star, if guys can stay relatively healthy and the young core coming up can produce then you're looking at 3 lines of players who can all put up 20+ goals each. Look at Pittsburg, Crosby and Malkin are both stars and the team hasn't won a playoff round since 2018. Edmonton has Draisaitl and McDavid (scoring leaders for the past how many years) and they barely make it to the second round themselves. Leafs have Matthews and argument can be made on Tavares and Nylander and we all know their story. Washington has only won 1 cup with Ovi on board. I'd much rather 3 solid lines of players who can score and are a threat then putting to much cap space on a "Star". If we're going to bring on a star then make it a star Goalie.

  9. We need one more thing beyond a star player or two >>>coaching.
I have been complaining a lot about St.Louis because I have NOT seen the proper structure on ice and the coach had a full year to get that in place. Now to be fair IDK the Habs internal structure maybe St.Louis is not the guy maybe he leaves the on ice teaching to other people all i know is they better get it right and soon because I see the same flaws game after game.

  10. I prefer having 5-7 players in the top 40, rather than 1-2 guys in the top10. My humble opinion. With the obvious focus on defense in this rebuild, I believe thats what we should expect. Look at toronto and edmonton for example. Okay YES, the NHL screws over canadian teams to popularize hockey in US swamps and deserts, but they both have 2 top10 players and have done less than the Canadiens in the last 10years

Edit: Okay, Toronto has done less

  11. BTW if anyone thinks I am just some smuck behind a computer lol think again and even if I was then it makes it even worse because if a smuck can see the flaws then why can't the guys hired to do so not see them?Besides that even if St,Louis is not the guy he is still the coach and SHOULD be relaying to his other trainers/coaches on what needs to be done to improve the teams gameplay.
I want to point something else out >>we finished behind the Flyers do you know how BAD the Flyers team was?Graviteh in his videos was calling the team a travesty and the manager should be fired well they bested the Habs …/sad times.

  12. The Canadiens don’t like stars. If they had one they’d run him out of town. It’s some prehistoric philosophy about not being bigger than the organization.

  13. I don't think too many star players are overly eager to sign with the Habs. Language barrier, high taxes, bad weather 8 months a year and not to mention the fact that it is in Quebec which anyone who knows how cringe the Quebecois trully are.

Also Quebecois haven't been producing star players in decades. Sorry but it's true Quebec isn't producing the star players like other Canadian provinces and the US has in the modern era.

  14. I think the habs took Reinbacher because Michkov and Benson are basically one way small goalscorers like caufield and you don’t need two of them on your roster.Yes they will be better but the gap isn’t that big between Caufield and Michkov long term and adding a slightly better Caufield isn’t what the habs needed even dough michkov was the best player available. Reinbacher was the best player available after Michkov and Benson and the habs needed a Right Defenseman badly. Also Reinbacher >Leneord
    Top pair dmen>2line power fwd

  15. I thought you guys have a superstar in Dach?? The way you guys talk him up you’d think he was better than Matthews 😂😂

  16. Mats naslund was 24 when he became a hab and 28 when he broke 100 pts give nick and cole some time suzuki at 23 out preformed mats at 24 remember that

  17. I think Slaf will be the fit with Nick and Cole long-term. I think you build a second scoring line lead by that 100 point player

  18. Lmao my cousin went out on a few times dates with richer I remember when it happened cuz my dad being the crazy habs fan he is was saying that he was the habs last 50 goal scorer

  19. Caufield is the ticket .
Fans fill the seats for this guy and there’s not much to not like about him.

  20. Lane Hutson? And maybe give Slaf one more year before declaring him not having star potential.

  21. i would rather have 6 guys who put up 20-30 goals than 1 guy who puts up 50. look at Vegas they won the Cup and didn't have a single player break the 30 goals (Marchessault had 28) or the 70 points marks (Eichel had 66)

  22. I think scoreing should be the last thing to add.

If you add a really good goal scorer early, they can handcuff you later with higher contract demands, and a good offense can carry a team, and during a rebuild it be best to stay low for the picks.
Like just look at the oilers, sure they have a great offense with 2 of the best players in the league, but when the games matter everything else around them falls apart.

So setting up a team thats ready, and can make life easier for goal scorers seems like the best plan.

  23. Not urgent to bring in a star, the club has about 3 potentials stars to come in the future. All of the Habs best assets are under 22 years old; give it time.

  24. Actually found a stephane richer shirt from his 50 goal season in my basement not long ago. Absolute beauty
