Get yourself a new GM. Someone who is not in love with Greyhound players or analytics so obscure or refined they are meaningless.
Contact Matthews agent and talk about a new contract. The second he hesitates or says anything about his client wanting to think about it you end the call and start looking for a trade partner.
Trade Marner, great in the regular season, nothing in the playoffs, again and again, way too soft.
Don’t resign Bunting, he’s not worth the money and he’s just a guy playing with two better players, that’s why he gets points. Knies is a cheaper replacement.
Test the market for Nylander.
Somehow someway get rid of Reilly and his 7.5 mil for 8 years, boat anchor contract. When was he a top 10 defenseman in this league, never was, never will be.

Go to the floor on the salary cap and stay there. Use the space to take bad contracts off other teams in the off season or at the deadline. You can get a lot for nothing this way. Do this for several years so you can stockpile pics.
Let the new GM decide on Keefe. Personally I’d keep him because you're giving him nothing in terms of players for several years, money saved and in this way he can’t ruin new young kids.
Develop an F’n strategy on what type of team you want. The 4s’s comes to mind. Size, speed, skill, sandpaper. Players don’t have to have equal amounts, but they all have to have some of it.
Start with a culture of TEAM. Some player takes a run at one of your best guys, one or more of your guys drives that guy through the boards or punches the crap out of him instantly.
Finally, for everyone who thinks they are one or two players away, think again. You’ve been saying this for several years now. This team, as it's constructed, has proved time and again that they can’t get it done. Running it back again is the very definition of insanity.

That sad thing is that I am not realy, I do not find the right word,I am disapointed but it it is not like two years ago, with the how could that happen and the why and everything. I am not even suprised. It is not good, but I am not a bit suprised. Business as usual.
I was not a fan of the Tavares signing at the time. I didn’t like the contract and I didn’t like the “window”. Both proven right. The Leafs have too much of the same on forward and simply don’t play playoff style offence. The problem wasn’t goaltending this year. Defence had good elements and awful ones (Get rid of Holl for the love of god). The team lacks character and that has been an ongoing issue for years. The lack of effort against weaker opposition. Not showing up in the playoffs at critical times when it matters. First round win was more like they broke the odds. They didn’t play fantastic or particularly deserve to win the series. It’s frustrating watching this team when long time hockey fans know and can see with their own eyes what playoff hockey looks like. Just watch the teams having success every year it’s not complicated.

Except for Rielly, the group lacks effective puck-movers and passers. Duby overhauled the back line before the deadline, but more work is needed here. Too bad he didn't acquire Chychrun, the kind of young, skilled d-man who's needed here. Probably didn't have the assets needed to make it happen.

For me game 1 was an expected loss. Leafs coming off the first series win and sitting for an extra day and the Panthers coming in high off the game 7 win. I knew they were gonna drop game 1. Game 2 Knies injury shook them. Game 3 they lose Sammy. If Knies doesn’t get tangled up with Bennett leafs probably win in 6. But if and buts we’re candy and nuts we’d all have a merry Christmas. Those are the breaks in playoff hockey.
When you think of it 2 expansion teams with less than 7 years of existence in NHL are still playing while the original 6 teams are finished. Over 200 YEARS of time in NHL for Leafs/ Bruins 1917/1924. Hard to believe. Also when was last time a Canadian team won the Cup?
Thanks guys for a good season, good entertainment, not life and death thank goodness. Mathews? Is he really a generational superstar? I beg to differ. If he can't transition into the offensive zone and split the D from time to time like Nylander then he's not deserving of that mantle, nor a raise. Tavares is now a 5 or 6 million dollar player, so that's 5 million wasted. Dubas needs to go; if he couldn't figure out 5 or 6 years ago that the playoffs are a different animal, then he's not brilliant like some think he is. Need another 2 D who can carry the puck out , perhaps Lilligren is one of them. Love Schenn, keep him on load management. Love Accari. Marner, a great trade chip that's needed at this point. Time for new eyes, new perspectives, and have a great summer.

The last Leafs cup was in 1967 I was 13 I’m 69 now. Yes I’m a Oilers fan but I honestly don’t see the leafs ever winning a cup in my lifetime
