  1. Everyone acts like JB is the idiot for drafting this guy, but he was ranked 6th by Bob McKenzie on TSN who got his info from scouts.

  2. Bennings drafting abiltity is highly overrated especially in the 1st round and mtl has seen the benifit for this i e sergachev after juulevi on dmen i.e cauffield after podkolzin on rw for a small sample size. How benning has a job in hockey at all is proof its not what you know but who you know, hes a moron

  3. Going into the draft I REALLY wanted us to draft Juolevi. We had a high draft pick and we desperately needed defenseman, with this high draft pick we were going to get a future Norris winner. It still pains me that Matt Tkachuk went next.

  4. Correct if I am wrong. Wasn't Sergachev scouted as the most NHL ready D at the draft? I was surprised Canucks passed on him. And then surprised the Habs did & even more surprised when traded to TB.

  5. I am hard pressed to find a worse pick in Benning's time as GM. Arguably, Virtanen would be a close second. It's hard not to cringe when you look at the quality players we overlooked. I realize every team can make the same statement, however with all the bad signings and contracts, questionable trades, etc. you have to wonder how this buffoon still has a job.

  6. So far Juolevi has been a bust but who knows he could still turn out to be good just not with the Canucks. However let’s not forget all the good draft picks Benning has made like Pettersson, Hughes, Demko, Hoglander and now Podkolzin and Rathbone are looking pretty good too.

  7. Everyone that is saying we could have had Tkachuk this and Tkachuk that, if we draft Tkachuk then we probably don’t get Pettersson and hughes, so relax, the canucks are just fine.

  8. Blessing in a disguise. If we drafted Tkachuk we likely wouldn’t have drafted Petey or Hughes. Who knows though

  9. always always always draft best player available (*if you need a certain position filled later, NOW you have a great player, the BEST player you could`ve gotten your hands on in fact, as a bargaining chip to trade for it !

  10. You can argue that Virtanen was also a case of not drafting BPA because Benning said the hardest positions to fill at power forward and PP QB. Explains why he passed on Nylander, who was touted as having the highest ceiling.
