[Shapiro] The hate this man gets astounds me. 88 goals the last 2 seasons, 34 on the powerplay. Plays all 3 strengths very well. Fantastic 3 zone player. Defensive/offensive play driver. Best net front presence in the game. Elite level speed/skating. Just a solid hockey player.

Yup. If he had better hands (not counting deflections) he’d be one of the very best players in the entire league.

Doesn’t help that every time he gets mentioned in an r/hockey thread the Habs fans come piling in to make fart sounds about Kreider getting tripped from behind into Price by their own player nine years ago

  3. Not much hate. The main problem with Kreider isn’t about his production. As it is with many of the top Rangers, he seems to utterly disappear for games at a time. Top players around the NHL tend to contribute in other ways but when Kreider isn’t scoring, he isn’t doing much else especially in even strength.

Did we make Trouba the C in order to trade him? We do that sometimes….. then we give K the C and bring in – wait for it –

    Karlsson!

I’m sorry but no stats will ever make up for him going ghost mode so often. Good player, almost always leaves you wanting more. He is absolutely not a play driver.

One of the dumbest things in hockey and you see it a lot in baseball too is that a lack of offensive production is equated to “disappearing” or “not having enough fight”.

Kreider doesn’t disappear. He’s an excellent defensive forward even in games where he doesn’t score. And his in front of net presence isn’t going to be appreciated in games where the rest of the offense can’t take advantage of that.

But in general dudes get outplayed and lazy fans always want to blame effort. I’m not saying there’s never a night where the team isn’t giving effort, but it’s really rare that Kreider “disappears”. The things he does well just don’t get appreciated when the team isn’t scoring goals.
