Patrice Bergeron’s retirement, legacy, and what it all means for the Boston Bruins

Patrice Bergeron has announced his retirement from professional hockey, and it’s hard to articulate exactly what he has meant to the Boston Bruins and their fans over the past 20 years.

Ian McLaren is here to try.

On today’s episode, a breakdown of Bergeron’s decision and why it was made now, a look back at his legacy on and off the ice, and what the decision means for the 2023-24 Bruins.

Can Pavel Zacha and Charlie Coyle succeed as top 6 centers? Who’s the next captain – Charlie McAvoy, Brad Marchand, or someone else? And when will Bergeron’s number be retired.

All that and more on a special episode of Locked on Boston Bruins.

  1. Sad and happy day at the same time, sad he's done, happy to celebrate his career. My favourite Boston Bruin, my favourite moment was when he scored the winning goal in game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals in 2011. Just an amazing all-around player, his Number should go up in the rafter opening day and just for go the 3 years put him in the Hall of fame this November.

  2. Aww, Bessie the Cat was going to join us but then turned around and left when she heard episode was going to be about Bergeron leaving the team. 😢
