Good. The whole thing was stupid and got out of hand.
That Kierra Lewis chick is bat shit insane as well as her followers who defended her on the Wennberg’s IG pages.

I swear, if I never hear the phrase “BookTok” again it will be too soon.

I hope Kraken PR has apologized for their role in this. I don’t really blame them a ton, they’re trying to build a fan base and to see an extremely popular WOC writing about the team looked like a gold mine. But they did play into it too hard. My sister commented around the end of the season that it felt like the social media team was exploiting the teams eye candy to build a following.

I caught some of this info on Twitter and had no idea it was THAT chick. I remember thinking it was cool to see new fans get into hockey for whatever reason and thought it was somewhat funny and harmless but that obviously isn’t the case now. I was so pissed off when the team flew her out and gave her Glass seats. After hearing about some of the things she was doing, I just can’t believe it. What a psycho! WTF Seattle?!?!

I don’t know what ‘BookTok’ is…
… and at this point I’m too afraid to ask

i wonder if they let the booktok social media admin go a few weeks ago? i’ve been scrolling through their posts and it seems like they’re written in a more professional way + very few memes/emojis

If it’s true that Rath actually reached out to the PR team *before* the Wennbergs **and** they posted a video after her concern mocking it… well, then I actually hope some folks lost their jobs.
Before this, I was placing very little blame on the Kraken PR team; however, *if that’s true*, it changes things. Kierra Lewis was still way over the line and her response was wildly inappropriate, but this was a major mistake by the Kraken PR team.
If a major creator in an online community comes to tell you that you are crossing a line and doing something harmful, *you fucking listen*. This is all assuming that Rath – whom ESPN decided to feature heavily – is telling the truth.

“Rath said that 24 hours after she raised concerns with the Kraken, their social media team posted another Wennberg video that referenced her complaint, publishing it as an act of defiance.”
If this is accurate, the person responsible had better be fired and the Kraken needs to make a statement apologizing.

Good. I saw one of those BookTok videos last week that the Kraken media had posted to their official account. It was so distasteful and I was surprised that they were actively encouraging this behavior.
Let’s get back to hockey.

I am not disregarding the actual sexual harassment that was happening by saying this because from what I’ve seen, it did get way too out of hand.
But I do want to say that I am so tired of reading about this.. I was just talking to my husband last night about how I now feel icky about voicing that I’m a kraken fan as a female. I’m a huge Dunn and Grubauer fan and have been vocal about that a few times on social media (speaking on their hockey abilities I should add) but these few women who took this harassment to a whole new level, not only have disrespected the players but also caused a huge rift in the actual female fans of hockey.
