Mackenzie MacEachern’s mid-air diving goal made ESPN.
Bensenville, IL (October 13, 2012) -Alex Roos tallied two goals and an assist Saturday evening as the Chicago Steel earned a 9-5 win against Team USA U-17 at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
Twelve Steel players saw their names highlighted in the scoring column, with Mackenzie MacEachern (1g, 2a), Thomas Ebbing (1g, 2a), Ray Pigozzi (1g, 2a), Biagio Lerario (3a) and Roos all contributing multiple points in the victory. Steel goalie Alex Sakellaropoulos earned his fifth victory of the United States Hockey League season as his squad moved to 5-1-0 in 2012-13.
Chicago held a 5-4 lead going into the second intermission, but opened the game up in the third with four unanswered goals in the first ten minutes of the period. The Steel outshot USA, 20-8, in the final stanza and had a 45-31 advantage for the game.
Saturday’s contest was quite a different story from the previous night, when both squads were even in the shots department, 37-37, and Chicago needed a late goal by MacEachern to beat USA 4-3. Heil, who opened up the scoring both evenings for the Steel, didn’t have to wait long on Saturday as he put his team up 1-0 at the 5:12 mark in the first period.
Chicago is at home this Saturday to take on the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Puck drop against Muskegon is set for 7:05 p.m. and tickets for the game can be purchased by calling the Steel Ticket Office at 630-594-1161.
