In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about Ivan Miroshnichenko and where we can expect him to play in the fall. He broke off his contract with the KHL and it seems like he’s on a fast-track to the NHL. Ivan has impressed everyone after recover from Hodgkins Lymphoma and has put himself in a position to maybe even crack the Capitals roster. Later in the show Dan talks about the players that will be battling for positions. GM Brian Maclellan said he expects to see the like of Malenstyn, McMichael, and Protas will make the big team in the fall. In the last segment Dan talks about Capitals 7th round pick and how the Capitals appear to have big plans for him.

Can Strome play the wing so McMichael can dip his toe as third line center?

Miro can be the next 6 forward player
Since when does MAC make “off the cuff” comments. He is a straight shooter.
It would help if you set your lines and specify who is vulnerable. For example, Backstrom is a question mark based on his hip surgery rehab.
I think it makes sense to start Miro in the AHL. Just don't hesitate to bring him up if he's ready. You risk making him jaded. I dunno what sort of salary he had in the KHL but keeping him artificially in AHL means he's on low salary of his ELC 2way terms which could make him resentful.
On a side note I believe he had NON Hodgkins lymphoma which is just as serious as Hodgkins but it's actually more deadly because the symptoms tend not to present as clearly as the Hodgkins variant meaning diagnoses can be missed
The prospect of Ivan making the team out of camp might be one of the reasons we saw no trades after the draft. It's not necessarily a bad idea to allow training camp to pass before making a judgement on what the necessary changes to the roster will be (if any).
I think there are a lot of hood prospects but it will be hard to narrow things down.
While I am cautiously optimistic, I do look forward to hopefully have some answers with what these young guys have. The game has become so fast and I think a blend of youth and vets will do well. I just don’t want to see these young kids get sick of waiting for their opportunity.
