Admittedly, he’s not the most well-known or sexiest option, but:
Suter is a versatile forward. He can play center, but also on the wing and has done both in the NHL. While his production is not stellar, he has been one of the best defensive forwards in the league over the last 3 years, and he’s excellent on the penalty kill. He also has shown that he can produce at decent levels, if need be and paired with other good players. He’s kind of sneakliy good around the net and scores a lot of dirty goals, despite his smaller frame.
He turned down money from Detroit and is looking for more than one year. So you could likely get him for two years at around one million.
And most importantly: HE’S SWISS!

I actually really like Suter’s game, but I just don’t see how it makes sense to bring in another forward. Fitz has made it clear he’s looking for Foote to make the jump next season and play for a roster spot. And on top of that, there’s Holtz. Who knows if he’ll be able to put it together consistently, but he just has too much potential not to be given a real look this year.
But you also make a good point: he’s Swiss. The Devils are the de facto Swiss national team, so by rights, he’s already ours.
