Where would Connor Bedard be selected in a draft of the last twenty first overall picks?

Connor Bedard is clearly a generational talent, but where would he be selected in a draft of the last twenty first overall picks in the NHL draft? TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button shares his ranks, and explains where Bedard fits.

  1. Kid hasn't even played an NHL game yet. Not denying the kids talented, but do this after he's got a couple seasons under his belt.

  2. This coming from a guy that put Martin St Louis on waivers only for Tampa to pick him up, and we all know how that turned out.

  3. I think Craig Button forgets just how good an 18-year-old Ovechkin was. He was already a big, fast player with a cannon of a shot who would have likely scored 50 in the NHL if the lockout didn't happen (he did score 52 coming in as barely a 20-year-old).

Bedard is comparable to that, but I would have him under Ovechkin.

  4. Bedard has the potential to either be the best player of his generation or the biggest bust in NHL history

  5. A lot of these top prospects get over hyped each year! I think Bedard will be a great NHL player but slow your roll until he proves himself like Cosby, Matthews, McDavid, Ovechkin, etc

  6. Before I watch the video I will say he ranks #2 behind McDavid. Maybe #3 behind McDavid and Crosby

  7. idk is stamkos wouldve went before tavares if he could've gone a year earlier or if stakos was in the 2009 draft. a conversation ofcourse but idk if he wouldve

  8. I feel like this list is basically describing a self fulfilling prophecy where a Canadian biased hockey media evaluates the hype they give to prospects (that highly advantages Canadians)

I mean, in what logical category does Bedard outpace draft day Ovi? What?

If Auston Matthews' draft season happened in Canada, he'd have been touted as generational. And should have been given what transpired the SECOND he hit the NHL. Ditto with Kane.

Who the hell in their right mind was watching Jack Hughes and assigning him the 10th most hyped prospect of 20? Why?

I'm not saying all this didn't happen. It did.

I'm saying it's wrong. And Canadian bias is normalizing unique talents from other countries.

  9. I think it all depends which team he goes to. As good as he is, he needs a good surrounding cast. If he goes to a team like Arizona, he's not going to have much to work with.

  10. In terms of pre draft hype, I think Bedard is right there with Crosby and McDavid sure. But I don't know if I ever heard a prospect talked about like I heard people raving about Dahlin. People were speaking about him basically like they do Makar today. His predraft hype was off the charts! I don't think any prospect has been so hyped as he was.

  11. Number 1 means nothing, wait 10 years see how it goes. Had a bunch of Tom Brady rookie cards was thinking he’s from the Brady bunch or something. Go figure.

  12. Crosby – McDavid
    Bedard – Ovi
    Laf – Tavares – Matthews
    Kane – Stamkos – Dahlin
    Hughes – Mackinnon
    Hall – Ekblad – RNH
    Power – Hischier
    Slaf – Yakupov
    Johnson

I think people forget how ridiculous the hype with Lafreniere was, especially after his MVP World Junior performance
