McAvoy dumped the puck into the corner and was trying to avoid contact to chase. This is just a collision. I would say it’s a good no call.

  2. Probably, honestly looks accidental with bodies moving quickly. If Marchand doesn’t touch the puck just before the hit, you might have an argument for charging. But he’s engaging with the puck

  3. cacti_stalactite

It was a collision, both parties were okay.

  4. WetComb89

He looked like he was trying to avoid him and they collided. Hockey is just so damn fast sometimes there’s just no time to react.

  5. No-Material-23

Jack Edwards would be the one to ask.

This video clip reminds me how much I hate the Bruins.

But seriously it looks like a collision to me, not a targetted hit.

Edit: I forgot the obligatory “Fuck Marchand” whenever Boston is brought up

That’s a collision, not a check. Great (a rare event) non call by the officials.

  8. It kind of looked like both Aho and McAvoy made last second adjustments to reach for the puck after Aho’s pass got picked off by the other Bruins defenseman. They put themselves on a collision course into each other and McAvoy tried to dodge at the last moment which led to an awkward hit. I wouldn’t think it was malicious at all.

    Led with shoulder, totally legal

  10. booty32145

No, it’s not, but it’s a complete accident, so you don’t call a penalty there. hockey is just nuts

  11. StackThePads33

Not really a hit, but a collision. It looked like there was an attempt to avoid it, Aho was on an angle because he was trying to get the puck. Just another day in hockey

If he intentionally hit him, I’d say it’s illegal since the player did not have posession of the puck, but seeing as how he looked like he was trying to avoid contact, I think it’s okay, just an unfortunate collision that shook one guy up more than the other.

  13. He no longer had possession but based on players position not much you could do about it or call for it. Not to mention it’s play offs. It’s fine

A little questionable, but looks mostly incidental and at the very least it falls within the 3 count after releasing the puck rule.

  15. lonelyoldbasterd

As a Bruin fan , completely legal

  16. str8dwn

Unavoidable and better than the question.

  17. specifichero101

Had no reason to believe aho would be cutting back on a 2 on 1, so the collision wasn’t even really expected.

  18. Scoreycorey515

The bruin left his feet, I’m pretty sure this makes ot illegal..

I initially thought it was a dirty blind-side predatory hit because Aho did not have possession of the puck. On close look, it seems McAvoy was trying to get possession aggressively and ran over Aho by accident.

It was a reckless play, so I would have been fine with a penalty being called. McAvoy has some responsibility for the safety of other players.

  20. McAvoy actually had the puck. And there was no head contact. Just more ugly than anything, all around.

  21. RUZIONI08

We don’t give Aho enough credit for how tough he is.

  22. Wizdad-1000

Not intensional, both were just playing the puck and made contact. Marchand had the directional momentum advantage so it looks like a open ice hit. Good call on no hit.

  23. AroraCorealis

it’s legal in the sense that there was almost nothing he could do to not hit him but he really didn’t have to lean into it like that

  24. pye-oh-my

Yes, but it’s the Bruins so It doesn’t count

  25. Working_Horse_3077

Accidental Collision. If he had lined him up that would likely be a charging penalty.

  26. paulbrisson

This is an intentional hit without being one

  27. JammJamm2016

Hate Boston, good no call on this tho.

  28. canadiatv

I hate the bruins… what was the question again?

  29. Squabbles1234

It wasn’t even really a check, it was a collision, but given that it was just a random collision, he was like 90% shoulder/shoulder with maybe a little head contact, Aho looked fine to me too.

  30. Octane3750

The only thing you could possibly argue is that he kinda got aho with the elbow, but he didn’t contact the head and it would have been right through the body had they been square. That’s just physical play. Aho doesn’t like it but who likes getting trucked? It’s a physical sport, it’s not basketball….
