    last season stats: 61 gp, 5 g, 26 a, +2

Whoa… Definitely didn’t see that coming. Looks like 50% salary retained too. I figured a LD would’ve made more sense, but we have a pretty darn fun defense core now… Interesting.

Habs fan coming in peace. How is Lindstrom? A quick looks says he’s played a fair bit of games for the big club. How’s he been?

Pretty harmless RHD option at a 2.4M cap hit (50% retained). Upgrade over Lindstrom and if he isn’t great then he’ll still be a better replacement/healthy scratch 7th defenseman. From Michigan too.

Evens out the LH/RH thing a bit since Lindstrom was tough to pencil in as an actual top 6 pairing guy

    Jeff Petry on detroit? 🤢😫

    …for 2.4 million 😁🤑

I just looked at his Wikipedia page and learned that he has some deep roots in Michigan, including:
    – Born in Ann Arbor
    – Went to MSU
    – Dad is Dan Petry, who won the World Series with the Tigers in 1984

Edit: Heard on the radio that he spent some time at MSU

Petry at $2,343,750 is a decent deal. He’s better than Lindstrom, so it’s an incremental upgrade. I don’t hate it, but I’m not over the moon about it.

This is an excellent trade. Lindstrom was going to be a 7th defenseman and 4th round picks generally don’t make it to the NHL let alone playing more than 100 games. Petry at 2.3 mil for 2 seasons is cheap.

I’m not one to care too much about hometown players but it doesn’t hurt that he’s from Ann Arbor.

Already seeing the narrative start that we now have too many NHL caliber defenseman and have to move one. PEOPLE, we’re allowed to have more than 6 capable defensemen. It will be okay i promise

Holy shit can we scratch Chiarot now?!?

Don’t really understand why we have so many depth Defensemen signed. Hopefully it’s an exodia type situation and they’ll all combine together

It seems Stevie is going to let kids chill in GR for a few years and build chemistry/gain playoff experience. The organizational depth currently is certainly a thing of beauty.

Bringing all the Michiganders home. I like it

Not sure how some people can dislike this, don’t necessarily have to like it. But, at $2.34M for just two years, where our cap isn’t going to be a problem makes that a non-issue. He’s an upgrade over Lindstrom, and a conditional 4th in 2025 is effectively a wash.

He’s a veteran RHD, ton of experience. He’s not what he once was, but the move is just so low risk with the potential we get some immediate second pair RHD help.

i hate petry, and imo, he is going to be useless and frankly, i think a 4th on its own is overpayment for him.

EDIT: just one idiot’s opinion, i am not a coach or GM

  16. coltron57

Really happy with this as he’s objectively an upgrade and an instant 2RD who can play special teams, but the D core is Seider, Walman, and a bunch of dudes in their 30s on multi-year deals which doesn’t seem conducive to promoting more than Edvinsson within the next two seasons.

  17. Jeez-essFC

Sorry, but not getting the “Why” on this one. Is he better than Lindstrom? Mmmmwell, yes, but I would have liked to have given our young D at least a chance.

  18. Wakattack00

Petry played 1st pairing EV, PP, and PK TOI for Pittsburgh last year. They weren’t a great team, but if Petry can be our 3rd or 4th highest TOI dman this year that would be a huge upgrade for us. I think he’s probably our 4th best defenseman right now as it stands.

  19. Detroit has to be approaching a modern record for most hometown players, right?

  20. LawrkenTTV

I literally don’t get how anyone hates this….

    Mo-Walman

    Ghost-Maata

    Chiarot-Holl

    Petry

is a better defense core than we’ve had since Lidstrom retired
