I'm only iffy on this because it's yet another veteran for any of our prospects to get past. I really feel like we're at a place where we should be kind of forcing the issue with them, so to speak. We don't need to wait until we're a sure fire playoff team to start inserting rookies. Might as well do it while we're still a mediocre, inconsistent team.
Doesn't THG know it is not smart to advertise to The World that you are out-of-town for a week? I mean come on, those Hockey Jerseys he left behind would be Almost Impossible to replace. And just what will that conversation be like with the Insurance Adjuster? "Say what? You value your Sweater Wardrobe at over a Million Dollars?"
Lindstrom is a totally serviceable 3rd pairing d-man and he's only 24, so with good mentoring/development he could have a decent NHL career. That said, as a Red Wings fan who had no ill feelings toward Lindstrom, I'm happy with this trade. I like Petry, even if he's not going to have the impact he used to, I still see this as an upgrade.
Hughes is doing great. Habs dropping some dead wood (Hoffman) and an unhappy guy (Pitlick). In return, they get some cap relief, a couple draft pick, a couple projects (Légaré and Lindstrom) and an asset to trade DeSmith. Who would have thought that Hoffman and Pitlick combine would have been worth 2 picks, 3 players and over 1 million in cap relief.
If I'm not mistaken, Petry is from Detroit. His dad pitched for the Tigers and got a World Series ring with that great 1984 team. For a number of years Dan Petry was a solid number two man in the Tiger rotation to Jack Morris. Now we'll see what his son can do for the Wings, and speaking as a Red Wing fan, I think we'll all welcome him with open arms. He's not too shabby a defenseman.
All the Petry moves revolve around making his cap hit manageable for somebody. I actually commend the various GM's creativity in getting this juggling act done.
i'm upset. the habs didn't upgrade their defense during the summer and the Yzerplan was just a illusion. if the plan was to litteraly go to the market to get a new core D 5 years in, it's way too late. now both teams will battle for last place in the atlantic, just fucking great…
I was led to believe that since the Habs got a first rounder for Ben Chiarot, they were also going to get a first rounder for Jeff Petry. That was what I had seen around the internets.
Lindstrom was once a bright spot for the Wings, but seemed to regress the last couple of years. Yzerman must have lost his patience to trade a 24 yr. old right shot defenseman.
The main thing that I don’t like about this trade for the Habs is that it feels like so little for a 50% retained player with 2 seasons left. I feel like without retaining this trade is more fair
I like the deals that Yzerman has made these past couple of years. The Justin Holl deal shocked me a bit, especially for that price.
I still think there is a big deal out there that Yzerman could make and that's with Winnipeg for Connor Hellebuyck. Winnipeg has the player that Detroit needs and The Wings have the prospects that The Jets need. The Wings also can include an NHL goalie in the trade which The Jets will need: Ville Husso. It would need to be a sign and then trade for it to work as The Wings aren't interested in one season only of Hellebuyck.
I like that Montreal has been very active in the trade department, but what’s next.
We got 9 signed NHL defenseman and a lot of upcoming prospects that might push some more out. Its impossible to keep them all even on the short term, multiple trades are needed.
We got 3 signed NHL goaltenders and Primeau wanting his chance eventually, who’s getting dealt ?
Montreal has an obvious lack of offensive abilities, i doubt reclamation projects alone are going to be enough to remedy that. Logically we would trade our extra d-men and goaltender(s) for forwards, prospects and picks, but i fear they will neglect the forward part of the equation.
We also got 4 meh-bad contracts up front, depending on their performances before the deadline i wouldn’t be surprised if one or two of them are also moved out.
To summarize we are speaking of what ? 2-3 defensemen gone, at least 1 goalie gone and ideally 1-2 more bad contract gone ? Thats at least 4 to 6 pieces that will probably get moved, from what what we know now and that’s without taking into account trade offers from other teams like the Petry/Pens deal.

Habs legend Jeff Petry

Chiarot must be on his way out then, no way Yzerman trades any of the other 7 D currently on the roster…
You may not have sweater to wear
But you could wear magnet on forehead
Ala Red Dwarf ( hologram)

Was just a question of where he was really going to play. Have a great vacation !!
Enjoy the rest of your vacation

Another young player! Im loving these moves more every time Hughes trades someone.

Could Petry be teamed up with Seider? I like the chemistry between Seider and Walman and hope that this works out.
Nobody is happier than Dan Petry!
Petry and DeCat go home. 👍
Good for them.

Glad your vacation is coming first, hope you're enjoying it, and thanks for the hockey news
Kent Hughes did petry a solid by trading him to his home state
Kudos to Hughes for trading Petry back to his home town, where his family still lives. Nice culture they are building in Montreal.

Petry is an upgrade, and Lindstrom could use a fresh start. I'm good with this one. Best of luck to everyone.
OG THG vibes
If the trade wasn't well thought out the Habs wouldn't have made it, I feel there is more in the works with the Canadiens plans.
Where would petry play tho because the wings have
Seider-Walman
Holl-ghost
Chiroat-mattta
Petry
Now watch and see Yzerman trade Chariot to Calgary for Hanafin.

Lidstrom will have to prove himself, otherwise I don't think the Habs got very much judging by his statistics…

Love from Germany. <3

Exciting times to be a habs fan thats for sure.
Detroit! Wow! Happy vacay Shannon!
Detroit, Sabres, Sens fans staying humble but watching what each team doing.👀
Stanley Cup finals here we come.😁 Let's go Red Wings. 👍🏻
His dad is a color announcer for Detroit tigers. So I'm sure he'll be happy to watch his son play for the wings.
Yzerman blew it by not signing Bertuzzi! He will score 30-45 goals for Leafs.
detroit gives up a prospect that has no future in the nhl,low draft pick and montreal retaind 50 percent of the salary, good pick up for detroit
Are you going to cover Rodion Amirov?
I keep rewinding and watching the board slide into Shannon at the start of the video. Love the character of the vacation videos!
I think both teams and fans come out happy with this trade, seems like a win win if you ask me
.12
Says alot when you put a condition on 4th Round Pick to make the deal work.
37% of remaining or of total I wonder?
Petry at 3ish is a pretty good number 4!!
As soon as a big trade happens I always search for you on YouTube. Thank you for your channel, buddy❤
