Slow news day… But CapFriendly [tweeted](https://twitter.com/CapFriendly/status/1691817438877212697?s=20) that former Boston College captain and former [6th round pick](https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/teams/dr00006879.html) Marshall Warren has been removed from the Wild’s reserve list, making him a free agent as he heads into his grad transfer year at Michigan.
This probably isn’t notable news to anyone except nerds like me who have taken up the hobby of keeping track of *all* of the Wild’s prospects, but I learned about the CBA because of this tweet, and now you get to as well.
There are countless ways for a draftee to become a free agent prior to signing an Entry Level Contract, but it seems that four factors went into the release of Marshall Warren’s exclusive rights of negotiation: draft age, draft location, college enrollment, college graduation:
**1) Warren was born** [4/20/2001](https://www.capfriendly.com/players/marshall-warren)**, so he turned 18 but not 19 prior to September 15th of his draft year (2019)** \- This made him an 18 Year Old Drafted Player
**2) Warren was born in New York and** [played](https://www.eliteprospects.com/search/player?birthplace=Laurel%20Hollow%2C%20NY%2C%20USA&sort=name) **his amateur hockey in USA** \- This made him a North American Drafted Player
**3) Warren** [played](https://bceagles.com/sports/mens-ice-hockey/roster/2019-20) **the 2019-2020 season at Boston College** \- This made him a College Drafted Player even though he had not started playing NCAA hockey before he was drafted
**4) Warren** [graduated](https://www.bcheights.com/2023/03/02/marshall-warren-boston-college-hockey-senior-night/) **from Boston College in Spring 2023 -** This meant that the Wild had until August 15 2023 to sign him before he became a free agent.
I wish him the best of health, and once he departs from the Wolverines, I wish him nothing but success (as long as he doesn’t end up in the Blackhawks or Avalanche organization).
