  1. Lets just take a minute And Appreciate the fact that people are saying, "You have too many defensive men that can play NHL minutes."

  2. That guy needed clicks so he made a negative statement about the Yzerplan so the Red Wing faithful would come rushing to Yzemans aid. It’s becoming a common theme.

The Red Wings (on paper) are a vastly better team this year than last. Last year the lack of depth was so evident Yzerman was a seller at the dead line.

The lack of D against teams like Ottawa and Buffalo who absolutely shelled the Wings made it abundantly clear the D needed an overhaul … and that’s what he did ..

  3. I like Yzerman's moves. People act like there is something better that could be done by Yzerman. He is keeping things manageable, flexible, and being smart and patient. DET will take off in 2-3 years when Cossa is ready for NHL time.

  4. First off, I think a lot of this fueled by the Wings NEVER giving you anything to explain what they are thinking. So like it's hard to know what they thinking, even though the moves generally seem to make sense. But that tweet tho. For real? "Influenced by factors like ownership, scouting, geography…" So he's worse because he went to a team with one of the richest, most committed ownership groups and one of the biggest, best scouting departments? Try squaring that circle brother. People are just acting out now.

  5. Bacon is just looking for clicks, Detroit was a disaster in 2019 thanks in large part to Kenny Holland. Helm was in the top 6, Abdelkader was an albatross, our d core had a pair that included Biega and Bowey. Yzermans moves compared to what? What was the alternative? No lottery luck and lost its luster as FA destination.

  6. It is hilarious reading the opinions of the people who dont follow the Wings. But would it not hurt to do just a little bit of research before tweeting a terrible take?
Its quite clear the direction that Yzerman is taking. He literally tells us what hes doing in his pressers.
Also, as a side note, i think he would have taken stutzle 1st overall if they didnt drop to 4th

  7. Don't forget, if some of these kids outplay the people he brought in this offseason Yzerman/LaLonde will put them in the line up. Also, the deals that have been made (outside of a couple) are no more than 1-2 year contracts with a decent cap hit. That makes the non-core players easier to move at/before the trade deadline either as a sweetener to bring in someone else, or to sell off for draft capital. I suspect that Soderblom and Edvinsson (I know I butchered spelling) will compete for starting roles.

  8. Yzerman never stops..
he’s a slow burn and calculated GM..
Yzerplan will work out.. eventually 😂

  9. I don’t think Yzerman is a bad gm by any mean but sometimes Wings fans do seem to hold him as some sort of genius. Nothing justify the term he gave to a bunch of aging ufa’s.

  10. Detroit vs Everybody Always applies. Who cares what these folks think. Most are troll comments and people that wanna be important lol Stevie has improved this team without blowing off money. We have a farm system. We have talent that needs to develop. We are just fine. This will take time no matter what some people think

  11. Bill Armstrong catches similar flack. Say what you want about the arena, but hockey operations is doing their job, and doing it well.

  12. Chalk it up as the usual sport fans making bad takes. There are reasons sport fans, the people who tweets you showed aren't being paid by teams to scout, gm, etc. If they had the answers twitter fingers wouldn't be twitter fingers. Bad takes are bad takes, over reactions are over reactions. Some of these guys might be trade pieces during the season.

  13. The Red Wings have 7 legitimate NHL level defensemen for the first time since Lidstrom retired over a decade ago. And it’s done with crazy cap flexibility. Even Holl and Chiarot are cuttable after this season with minimal cap repercussions.

The wings have a steady, functional roster completely full of legit NHL level players all the way through the bottom lines. And tons of flexibility to make room for any rookies that are ready to step up.

I’m glad we have a functional team for the rookies to step into so they can start learning the right way to play the day they step into the NHL. That’s the best way to develop players. Learn good habits from day 1

  14. I like the moves so far, we have some quality bridge pieces. Up to Lalonde this season to make it happen as we are in a tough division.

  15. You need to add in mentoring and making them young bucks earn their minutes being so good they have to give them more minutes! That's all development to. Not to mention I've noticed having to many defense is a GOOD THING! Selling them off at trade deadline for more picks and prospects! The picks and prospects is how you build a cup team

  16. That Patrick Bacon dude is the worst kind of bacon: Burned on the outside, raw on the inside, and just someone begging for relevancy so hard that he'll go out and make the worst of the bad takes he can think of. He claims to be trying tto be "wrong about hockey less frequently", yet he goes out there and pulls this nonsense? I don't care if JFresh uses his models or whatever, it's some grade-A attention seeking nonsense, and he deserves the ratio.

  17. The yzerplan has failed and anyone who denies that is a clown. All the draft reaches and overpays for middle 6 average players is pathetic. The wings should’ve hired Dubas

  18. I full heartedly believe if the red wings had the first overall pick in 2020 we would've picked Stutzle

  19. Lindstrom is a stay at home 6th or 7th defenseman. Him and a bonus 4th turned into a 30-40 pt right handed D-man with size who'll play top 4. When Edvinson and Johansson are ready Maata and Petry will be gone. It's a clear indication that they want Evindson to play top mins in GR this season rather than be 6th or 7th on the Wings.

  20. I made a comment on reddit about another team rebuilding I forget which one but I said as a gm(if your team sucks) you need to decide if you are going to sell tickets or draft high. It looks like he is impressing me by how he is kind of doing both. It’ll be tough to build a team without the those top picks but I like the talent pool he has currently and he is also selling tickets by signing a bunch of middle players and getting more wins with short contracts.

  21. Question, do you want (#1) a so-so team missing the playoffs with a bunch old veteran players? Or do you want (#2) a young team learning their craft at the NHL level getting valuable minutes and missing the playoffs? I take #2 every time. And yes I am a Metro Detroiter that thinks Yzerman has done a bad job in free agency.🤷‍♂

  22. Edvinsson had surgery and won't be ready for awhile, playing him in the AHL to gain fitness isn't a bad idea

  23. Yzerman is playing 4D Chess, while most people are still playing checkers. This is why people are hating on Yzerman…they simply have no clue what they’re talking about and therefore need to whine. This Patrick Bacon guy is proof of that. The only people complaining about Yzerman are the armchair GMs who have unrealistic expectations for the Wings.

  24. Detroit is doing exactly what Philadelphia just did with Giroux.
Hitching their wagon to a top player (Larkin) who is NOT an elite superstar.(Like Giroux)
They may be stars. Even 1st line players in the right company. But are they consistent elite franchise altering 100+ point players who score and lead up to and in the playoffs? Absolutely NOT.
Detroit has ONE legit top end prospect imho and that's Seider…
The rest are low elite talent.
Philadelphia has 2 prospects who MAY fit that elite franchise leading bill in Michkov and Gauthier. And Carter Hart looks REALLY good and still developing. 🤷‍♂️
Detroit is going to need a rebuild in 2-3 years at this rate.

  25. The NHL club is significantly better and the prospect pool is top 5. What's the question? lol he is clearly so good at his job, it's wild to even question this. Danny dekeyser was the best defender on the team when he came here. DANNY DEKEYSER.

  26. Bacon is an idiot, he also said Yzerman is a bad GM and no one would push back. Then he got push back, then changed it to no one outside of Detroit would push pack. He is a guy just looking for views, on a bad take.

  27. I see everyone's talking about Yzerman just like they talked about Hextall in Philadelphia. 🤦‍♂️😂
It's all fun and games until you realize your top "elite" prospects were low-elite- average at best, only half turn into players because a lack of development has consequences, and sometimes guys just don't pan out. 🤷‍♂️
Tampa was half built when Yzerman was there and has a deep af franchise all around.
Detroit is NOT looking similar to Tampa. 🤷‍♂️😂👍

  28. Yzerman is obviously going a long rebuild otherwise his signings dont make sense with the cap hits he obviously thinks they sre still 2 years away imo otherwise the Chiarot, Holl, and Petry contracts make no sense too much cap in meh dmen that arent going to do much and blocking prospects its not necessarily a bad thing but seens like hes not expecting to make the playoffs this season for sure based on the moves imo but saying hes improved the roster is stupid anyone couldve the 2019 team is 1 of the worst teams ever in the modern era

  29. It makes one wonder how Patrick Bacon can have 15,000 followers when he makes hilariously uninformed and plain dumb comments like that.

  30. We’ve sucked for a long time and havent gotten any lottery luck while under Yzerman which hurts, so the “yzer-plan” probably shifted from a Tampa/Colorado rebuild and feels more like a rebuild inspired by how Vegas/ Seattle built their respective teams

  31. Yzerman is building for the long term. Veterans show young players the RIGHT WAY. It’s going to be fine, ffs. Trust the Yzerplan.

  32. Boy, I would fight this Patrick Bacon guy lol I started being critical of SY for last years shopping spree(Chariot, Copp) in which we should have been tanking for a top pick instead of signing a bunch of players and also this years shopping spree(overpaying JT another Copp when we already have a bunch of guys who cant score and the Holl deal literally made me sick to my stomach lol) but SY literally resurrected this team..Holland left it for dead! What Stevie has done is literally a miracle. So for someone to call my Captain and GM "terrible" is ignorant and quite frankly enrages me🤷‍♂

  33. It's been fascinating following moves that Yzerman has been making as they all make sense to me ! Soon all that young talent will force their way on to the team ! I'm waiting with great anticipation . Better sooner than later ! Stevie has all kinds of bargaining chips !

  34. Apparently these astute hockey minds are unaware Edvinsson is coming off shoulder surgery and 3 of those "old guys" blocking the youth will be gone in 2 seasons. Most could be traded or bought out with minimal repercussions as well.

Edvinsson will likely be in Detroit after mid season or the start of the 2024 season when Ghost is gone. Petry and Maatta will be gone the following year making room for 2 of Wallinder, Johansson, and ASP. Edvinsson is the only one people legit thought had a good shot to make the team this year, and he's coming off surgery. I think the timeline is actually really good between expiring contracts and prospects being ready.

  35. It’s all about timing. The Wings have never been the type to rush a young prospect. I trust Yzerman and his team.
