Every time I see “Matthew Beniers” I cringe a little.
I think the combination of our atrocious faceoff % and our incredibly slow zone entry scheme was a major contributor to why our power play was so awful. Instead of wasting 15 seconds on a cleared puck, we would routinely waste 30 seconds. A power play can’t succeed wasting that much time. I want to see improvements on our entries perhaps even more than I want to see a new offensive zone scheme for the PP, and that’s saying something.
All this to say, improving our faceoffs would be good, but there’s more we can do to mitigate the damage in high leverage faceoffs.
