Maple Grove had a mistake filled opening half of the football season, and rival Osseo was happy to take advantage.
A high punt snap by Maple Grove put Osseo at the Crimson 10-yard line and led to a quick touchdown pass from Martelius Hughes to Alphonso Gbaela.
Osseo scored early in the second quarter as Hughes hit Ron Gray for a 29-yard touchdown. Maple Grove settled down to get back into the game.
Third-year starter at quarterback Brad Davison threw two interceptions in the first half, but was a big difference-maker for the Crimson as the game progressed. Davison scored on a four yard touchdown sweep in the second quarter and Andy Peterson’s field goal as time expired in the half pulled the Crimson to within 13-10 at halftime.
The Crimson’s defense mostly shut Osseo down in the second half aside from a few big gainers and the Crimson offense converted twice for touchdowns.
Davison hit Jack Dugan for a five yard touchdown to put Maple Grove in front 17-13, and Davison’s 46-yard run helped to seal the win.
It’s Maple Grove’s first on-field win over Osseo since 2009.
