  1. I predict 93 to 98 points. Key players had alot if time to heal injuries. They'll be playoff bound just watch.

  2. Even if healthy, and I feel the same way about the Pens, goaltending and team defense is going to have to carry them heavily. There's some old bones out there in a league that's getting faster

  3. End of a era team, like Pittsburg but with no obsession to make a run for the cup. are they a top 16 NHL team? probably not. are they playoff bound? unlikely.
they are old, their best years are behind them and they will likely run it back in 24-25. Most of their core are due in 2025 so let's enjoy it until then.
    The rebuild is coming.

  4. It seems that all the Caps fans have succumb to the notion that we’re in an inevitable decline. The team is structured around Ovi, and our likelihood for injury is higher than our likelihood of success. Yes the facts and trends support that pessimism, but I’m here to tell you, WE’RE NOT GONNA BE SUCK THIS YEAR!

  5. I think they'll be better than last season since everyone is technically healthy but will still have to fight for a playoff spot. If Ovi stays healthy he'll probably reach 40 but I'm guessing closer to 35. I think Backstrom will be in and out of the lineup as much as Oshie is. I just hope Wilson plays well and stays healthy.

  6. I personally think Caps sneak into the playoffs. The team was ravaged by injuries last season, that very easily could happen again given the age of many of the key contributors but I’m cautiously optimistic that they surprise everyone this year

  7. Shannon, I don't understand how you couldn't point out the Caps have a new head coach in Spencer Carbery and a new assistant coach of the defense in Mitch Love, who head coached the Calgary Wranglers to the best record in the AHL. Laviolette/McCarthy ran the team into the ground and it was pretty evident. His system was basically having Kuemper/Chucky Side-Burns(that is his correct nickname) left out to dry. Going back to the new coach, there will be a new system in place. Carbery emphasizes details, playing as a five man unit in all 3 zones and having a good PP(That 21.2% PP was deceiving). Assistant Love has spoken how he will evaluate the d-men to find their strengths/weaknesses and match d-pairs accordingly, where McCarthy just forced his d-system on the roster. Basically the Caps could be better or worse depending on how well the players gel to the new system. They could be somewhat of an enigma to where they place in the standings of the Metro. With the players they lost, they have some good talent in the pipeline with Protas, Connor McMichael and Joe Snively.

It bothers me when you talk about a changed roster, but don't factor in a new coach and system. Ask any true Caps fan and they will honestly tell you they are not sure what the Caps will be like this coming season.

  8. Great video Shannon. For The Caps it is about one thing, get Ovie nearer to the career goal record!!!! That is it. I don't think that the Caps have the talent to be a serious challenge for the Cup, but the goal record for Ovie that to me is the main goal.

  9. Hello! Could someone please tell me a streaming service (in english) to watch all Montreal Canadiens games on for the upcoming 2023 2024 season? I have been asking people about sportsnet now, but everyone says you can't get all of their games on there not sure if thats true? What about Tsn is that an option, does sportsnet or tsn own the rights to the canadiens? If someone could just tell me what streaming service I can watch all Montreal Canadiens games on for this upcoming season that would be great thanks!

  10. should have been a short vid. Pass the puck to Ovi who's standing in the circle to shoot. The end.

  11. I see the slide downwards continuing for the Caps. Rebuild denial will haunt them for years to come. Main objective seems to be Ovechkin passing Gretzky in all time goals scored, which is totally ridiculous. Their barriers to success include age, injuries, couple of bad contracts (Kuznetsov, Mantha), and bare cupboard for hot prospects. Will be a long season for them.

  12. Caps will be in better shape this season. They actually played well when they were forced to use their younger players, which Lavi was a terrible coach for him to rely on young players. Younger new coach will translate to more patience with the younger upcoming players, which allows the team to not have to emphasize playing the vets so much.

  13. Hockey’s version of one hit wonder or a flash in the pan. Haven’t won a round since they won the cup in 2018.

  14. As a caps fan the main worry should be secondary scoring behind Ovechkin. The team needs to score more as before the deadline the caps were actually ok defensively and in goal even without Carlson for a large chunk of the season which really hurt the defensive numbers. Team needs more goals from Strome, Wilson, Kuznetsov, Backstrom, Mantha, Oshie, Pacioretty and Milano too. Gotta stay healthy which they didn't last season.

  15. I think the window is closed for the Caps and I accept that but I also think the Pens is also closed as well, even with Karlsson.

Caps had no health luck and with an old core that will likely continue. If healthy they will obviously be better but probably still not enough to go on a run, even if they sneak in.

Pens were healthy for once and couldn't even beat a depleted Hawks team in a do or die game to make the playoffs with the whole core being a minus for the game. Adding Karlsson will help their power play but make them worse 5 on 5 defensively, so it won't be enough to get them in especially with so many other teams on the rise. I also doubt the core lucks out and stays healthy for another whole season based on the fact they never were in previous years and are just as old or older than the Caps.

Most likely 4th or 5th for both with the Atlantic getting both WC's. Possibly lower if Columbus gets it together.

Capitals dark days will end quiker than the Pens will. With how freely the Pens have sold their draft capital and still not achieving anything. Pens may be the next team to have a decade of darkness in the league. Capitals also have a far deeper farm system already.

It was a amazing while it lasted but now it really is time for the Oilers and other young teams to shine.

  16. ..who is going to score for this team?
Ovie will score 40..but guys his age dont just sneak back up to 50+. Even if he did..Who are the other top scorers, Strome at 55 points?
Pac, Back, and Kuz are all old and cant even play half a season at this point.
…After 4 straight seasons of regression?
They're finished. It's all about those 73 goals. So late next season.

  17. This team played its best hockey last season at a time when they had many injuries and brought up youth and speed. This is an old slow team which at best is a wild card. Still at least not digging as big an old guy hole as the Penguins

  18. I think the Caps are in a bad spot, unless Kuzy and Mantha have great bounce back years and they stay healthy. I'm not sold on any of their minor league prospects. Before last season, I thought the young players like Protas and Lapierre would step up in the absence of Backstrom and Wilson, but that didn't happen.

I hope I am wrong, but I don't feel good about any part this team. The offence is all Ovi, they can never get timely saves and the defense leaves the goalies out to dry too much. Maybe Carbery's system can fix some of that.
